Johnny Lovell and Charlie Ogletree take the Tornado Nationals perpetual trophy for 2003.

The Tampa Bay Catamaran Sailors hosted this event and have put up a very thorough report with photos and results. About 9 pages of pictures for those of you who could not attend.

If you think this is a good idea for regatta reporting let us know if you liked the effort.

I watched your coverage each day and liked it quite a bit. Too bad about the wind not cooperating though.

Here's a suggestion for future events...when posting results tables, it would be interesting to see tmining data to see how close things were, rather than just posting standings each day. See the Steeplchase race report on this website front page to see the results table...you can realyl see how close the boats were between the placings.

They don't keep timing results for class racing like that do they? They're only concerned with finish position - no?

Jake, you are correct.
In class racing times are not taken.

The Tornado Nationals was a world ranking event. It was officiated by a US Sailing certified PRO who has been on the Olympic Race Commettee. There were US Sailing judges on the water and a select pannel certified to hear protests.

This race was very important for the Canadian teams. From my understanding they used this race to determine country funding.

As for the US sailors, the status of the Cup is very high. The names of past winners include many of the greats in the world of sailing and many of this group are the greats of today.

One of these U.S. teams will most likly be representing the Unites States at the Olympics in 2004.

As for the weather, the sailors of this caliber just take it in their stride.
