This is the refurbishment and rigging refit of an older timber mossie that took six and a half months to get to this stage.

This is what it used to look like .

like the blue/white color combination, certainly catches the eye
smile

what is the material on the main decks ???
From the small photos I thought you'd done a carbon overlay for a moment, but once enlarged it looks more like a 'mat' that's been laid down ....

Hi Kingy.

That material on the main deck is patterned foam stuck on with brush on contact glue. Both comfortable and a good grip.

I purchased them in sheets of 1200x600x3mm size, than sliced and cut to size .

Great job Dave!
I have seen that deck grip around - where did you get yours from?

Hi Mathew.

I live in Brisbane and I bought the foam from P J bowers on the Gold Coast. They make their own patterned foam.
Dave.

What a difference the kite makes to the mossie.

Brett Kelly and I went to Hollywell at the Southport Yacht club last weekend for a social sail. The wind was blowing at about 12 to 18 knots. This was the second time that I have had the chance to use the new spinnaker set-up, what a blast it was. (I need plenty of practice)
I have owned this Boat since 2010 and have been waiting patiently wanting to have a spinnaker but other priorities had to take precedence.

The new sailing season is nearly upon us , so I am really interested to see how I go this sailing season.

Another thing that will be good and that will be sailing the mixed fleet regattas. The extra speed of the kite will give me more confidence that I can keep up and be more competitive.

Also for those that are interested, there is some details of the work that went into restoring the hulls on the Qld/NSW link.

Thanks Kingy.

I like many others regularly check up on the progress of twice shy on you rebuild thread. Especially I like the fabrication work, with things like the rudder stocks and lock down mechanism. Very good work.

Maybe like yourself I have a bad habit of wanting to restore older things and make them better than they were. It would be good to get some of the neglected mossies and refurbish them but time and money doesn't allow.

It's blown me away with the interest that Shy has generated, both in the thread and via PM's with people wanting more info or better detail.
Who'd have guessed that a neglected ugly old mozzie bought from eBay & with crazy cheap price tag would get nearly 20,000 views and have 'regulars' that get a little agitated if I leave the thread alone for more than a few days
eek

I don't always get it right, there's been several learning curves from Shy, knowledge that has and will continue to go into Karp's rebuild, that knowledge base covers not only the ply hulls but many other areas from the rigging to the trailer itself.

I never started the threads to 'showcase' my work, it was all about a visual reference for others to comment on, so either I'm doing it right and no-one has a need to make a comment or I'm the laughing stock of the mozzie community .... either way I'm entertaining people..... & a lot of them shocked

Shy isn't finished by a long shot and probably wont leave the shed for any great length of time until she's sold on....

stay tuned

wink

Yeah good sense of humour there.

Plenty of people will be getting some good ideas and possible inspiration from your work. (wish I had a TIG welder)

For me this is the first boat that I have restored/upgraded, have had plenty of practice with restoring cars so some skills were transferable. Whereas some other areas needed plenty of research and planning.

Being patient with the process and methodical seems to do the job for most tasks.

Re-decking the hulls like you have done would have made for a larger job ,that's for sure. What you have been doing looks pretty thorough and will make old shy a much better boat to sail. I like many others am keen to see what else that you have In store for both of your mossies.
