I was out for a sail today and managed to tear the main sail just below the first batten. I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to repair the sail. i have tried to sew it up using a standard sewing machine however the materal sems a little heavy for the machine. I was wondering if anyuone else has tried sewing up a sail. or if anyone can recommend a good sail maker to do the repair for me in Brisbane southside

Except for small holes or tears that can be repaired with duct tape, sail repairs should be performed by a sailmaker. They have the required equipment, material and expertise. Small repairs are usually pretty cheap. Your local Hobie fleet or regional class association can probably provide a recommended sailmaker.

Don't use duct tape, unless your name is Red Green. Use sail tape. That's why they CALL it sail tape.

5.0 ounce dacron can be sewn with the run of the mill Singer sewing machine. Use a polypro or dacron thread.
