Last year we had a pretty healthy attendance. I can't seem to find the results for an exact count. If you brought your viper down it would complete an F16 fleet as of now.

Any wind? whats the scoop?

The men were amazed, and said, "What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" Matthew 8:27

Blowing all weekend! We had 10-15 on Saturday with some higher lines of wind coming down the lake. 5 to 12 on Sunday. We got 7 races in overall in the low DPN fleet and 5 in the high DPN fleet. We had a line of wind come down the course with a shift leaving Ted and I a good bit overstood to the finish line in one of the races on Saturday...given that we were in second place at the moment, we were going for a wipe out, breakdown, or win. It's probably one of the higher sustained speed runs I've ever done (and survived upright through).

I also got to test out the two boat port approach to A-mark we've been discussing here lately. I had overlap but the boat in front luffed me up and footed off to break overlap right about at the edge of the zone around A-mark. I was slightly higher on the course and was really close behind (a foot or so separating us). I stuck with it and controlled the tack of the gentleman in front until I could tack and make the mark with him now on my stern...much to his clearly vocalized displeasure. It was a good feeling knowing exactly how that situation could play out...thank you to Eric and the others that provided their expert experience to that discussion.

I hope to have the results up at EMSA-Sailing.com by mid-week.

So no Starboard boats to contend with so you took him past the mark and tacked!

Yup. Exactly! Thankfully one other Catsailor participant was nearby during my subsequent beach conversation. They recommended that said sailor should not make a bet with me regarding the legality of my maneuver.

It was a great regatta. Fantastic weather, competitive racing and good food back at the beach. Can't ask for more than that. We are already looking forward to next year.

I'm glad the discussion was helpful. We aim to please.

Thanks for posting the results. It seems to me though, that the single-handed H16s received a disadvantageous Portsmouth rating.

Regards,
Eric

Eric, I double checked it just now and the standard hit for single handing appears to be the L4 mod at .97 on the straight DPN..so it looks like they used the correct handicap for single handing unless I'm missing something.

L4 For total crew weight less than 70% of class min. crew wt. or for singlehanding a sloop
not having class min. crew weights. 0.970

H16 DPN = 76
H16 DPN * L4 = 76* .97 = 73.7

If EMSA is going to use crew weight modifiers, perhaps it should consider using wind-dependent modifiers as well. At Beaufort 2-3, that would put a single-handed H16 at 76.3 instead of 73.7 (vs. 74.3 for an Isotope 1-up).

It was the intent but the software was giving the RC fits. I'm working on some improvements. Either way, it's not like we have an option to use or not use modifiers.
