Hi all Stawell Yacht Club is holding a regatta on the 22-23 November 2014. There was a good turn out of Mossies last year, it would be great to see a few more this year. (you can even camp on site) see website for more details. www.stawellyachtclub.org.au

Half a chance Ross, I haven't been able to get back home to lend a hand as much as I would have liked due to working away and other sporting commitments . however finished or not I won't be attending. This regatta has a curse on me.
Dengue fever will be there tho

Thanks for the update Al, The water level is up, so should be good sailing. It would be a shame if Scorpion does not make it.

Close mates funeral on Friday frown

I'm driving up and back with pickup's and drop-off's on the way, 20 hours up and 20 hours back..... not going to be a fun weekend
cry

I was actually looking forward to Stawell, the boats undergone massive changes and although its still being sorted I was hopefull of doing much better than last years effort.

Its been a bad couple of weeks....
Wayne's totally unexpected death, frown
my Cruiser that never lets me down suddenly decides to mix oil and water together in the sump and finding the source problem wastes 2 days... only Toyota could think of putting a welch-plug under a side-cover plate and then sticking the pwr steering pump and the aircon pump over that lot mad
The wife's statesman suddenly decides it going to suffer from an intermittent electrical issue which I'm still trying to track down = new dizzy by the looks of it mad
The wife's 300ZX has a smashed windscreen and I forgot to renew my rego on my zed a few months back when I was in Tassie

to top it all off the boss is grumpy because I'm going to the funeral, he will be furious when I tell him number 2 son is going for his licence tomorrow and I ave to take him....
eek

only the good die young...... I'm still payin and rackin up more debits as I go

sick

is the grass any greener up your way

grin

Hi Kingy,

Sorry to hear about your mate, but doing all that stuff to get out of sailing is a bit extreme!,

sounds like your son will have a licence and nothing to drive.

Grass is dry, very little rain up here, lake is up though.

20 odd entries, race 1 nice breeze, Race 2 wind peaked at 30 knots,(apparently a great sceptical for the spectators) race 3 abandoned breeze just stayed in and a thunder storm was approaching, race 4 drifter, race 5 abandoned due to lack of wind !
Overall Mossie Ross Bennett 1st, Taipan Luke Donovan 2nd, A class J, Goodall 3rd, Mossie Phil & Fiona Noone . It was a regatta that challenged everyone, on the water, everyone enjoyed the social side including the food the yacht club put on.

Ross is being a bit modest there. Amazing effort to finish the second race. Three cats left the shore, the Taipan returned before the start, the A Class tipped at the top mark and was lucky to be reunited with its skipper some time later - meanwhile Ross calmly (appeared so from the shore) sailed the course dealing with the huge gusts to be first across the line well ahead of the only other finisher, Johno in his impulse.

Well done Ross.

From the Stawell Paper

Stawell Yacht Club hosts annual regatta

STAWELL Yacht Club held its annual regional regatta and with a light but steady breeze and a fleet of seventeen entrants, all the signs were looking promising for a successful weekend.

Jan Ibs von Seht crashes out with a broken boom.

Portland's Luke Donovan won the catamaran division of race 1 from local sailor Ross Bennett, while monohull division honours went to Warrnambool Impulse skipper Mick Wright ahead of Stawell's Johno Knight.

Jack Goodall of Warrnambool won the junior section.

Three races were scheduled for the afternoon session, but unfortunately the strengthening wind brought a premature end to proceedings after just one event.

Only six craft fronted the start line and in a race of savage attrition, just two finished.

Of the two catamarans to start, Jon Goodall retired after parting company with his A class which sailed off crewless before they were reunited courtesy of a rescue boat, leaving local skipper Ross Bennett to take the win.

Following capsizes in metre high waves and winds gusting to 30 knots, the dinghies of Wright and Marcroft retired mid-race, leaving just the two local Impulses of Johno Knight and Jan Ibs von Seht to fight out their division.

Knight was revelling in the conditions, but the lighter weight Ibs von Seht had his work cut out despite a gritty effort.

He sailed extremely well, but was forced to retire after smashing spectacularly at the leeward mark and breaking his boom, requiring a tow back to the beach.

Sunday's conditions could not have been more of a contrast to those of the previous day, with an almost windless morning resulting in a 'drifter'.

Twenty boats participated in this frustratingly slow event which was shortened by officials.

Race winners were Tom Englezos sailing a Taipan, Steve Marcroft of Horsham club in a Laser and Jack Goodall.

The breeze finally kicked in later in the day, enabling a trophy race which attracted a field of ten dinghies including several remaining visitors.
Overall Ross Bennett in his Mosquito took the regatta win in the Catamaran Division, Mick Wright in his Impulse won the Monohull Devision

Ross Bennett jumped ship from his catamaran to the new Impulse and scored a handicap victory in only his second outing on the boat ahead of Steve Marcroft and George Grellet.

He also held the outright lead for much of the distance, until a mistake caused him to take on water allowing Johno Knight to snatch line honours.

Bennett's success earned him bragging rights for wins in both classes in the one weekend, undoubtedly a rare achievement.

Stawell Yacht Club set to celebrate

Stawell Yacht Club will be celebrating its sixtieth anniversary this Sunday.7/12/2014 all welcome
