I can't wait to see the results...from replaying the tracking, it looks like we were apart by a minute or so overall.

I also can't believe more of you numb-skulls didn't partake in the tracking. That is great stuff! People can relate better to a race like that by seeing it over a satellite image.

Oh, and still don't have low beams on the truck. Burned out two more bulbs on the way home and drove by fog lights for as much as we could stand.

All thumbs up on the new course format. Big thanks to all who helped make the change and Dave for taking the initiative. Upper Keys Sailing Club is just a perfect addition to this race. Obviously the ground crews (wives) really appreciated the Islander all weekend. The skippers meeting at Jake's room was great because we all hung out instead of scattering for dinner. Next year count on us for a big tray of lasagna.

This year was all about introducing our friend Matt to distance racing and he's agreed to be on the line next year with his Falcon F18. And what an introduction it was... starting on a close reach in flat water was just too much fun. We suffered as the breeze tapered off at the top and was really light entering Angelfish Creek. Nice reach through the creek and a sweet sleigh ride to through the sounds.

Day 2 was some of the best sailing ever and I believe Matt was thoroughly impressed with how a spin run continues through 6 inches of water without slowing down much. We stayed with Jake most of the way and impressed ourselves with keeping up with a veteran. Dave and Laura stayed behind us to make sure we were OK. Probably Laura's idea.

Finishing well is great... but just sailing well is important for me. Matt and I sailed well together, had great laughs, some oh sh!ts and learned alot. For us it was an epic race and great weekend. Next year Linda will be back on the boat, and it looks like the mixed team thing is moving the steeplechase way also. Good stuff, looking forward to next year.

I'm not convinced we saved our time and if we did it's really close!

Dick, Laura would grind you guys down and I'd let you slip away. Laura drove the open water and I drove the flats and I wasn't crossing efficiently. Laura is WAY meaner than me and having you guys in front of us made my job on the front of the boat a lot harder. Ricky be thankful I was driving in the cuts Laura would not have been nearly as nice to you as I was and she did warn you so be ready.

I guess 15 to maybe 18 until Anglefish then the inside was 15 and fading as we sailed south.

Day 2 ~12 to 15 tops fading as we approached the channel five bridge and 5 - 10 as we approached the Islander.

Really ideal conditions, enough to work you hard and soft enough for the first timers to handle it without issue. We never used the paddle which was a first for me and was REALLY nice. I think the only reason Ricky used his paddle was because Laura and I were in front of him :-).

That was, until Ricky's crew quietly slipped the paddle overboard during the exit of one of the creeks and later responded "whoops, the paddle is gone so I can't paddle anymore."

Aaaaahhh! That's why we flipped in Tarpon Basin. We clearly tripped over your stinking paddle.
