At this last minute I have had to make a change in the dates of the Wave Sail Racing Seminar from April 17-18 to April 24-26 (Friday through Sunday)
My reason for the change is that Rev. Sam Williams, my best friend for 45 year, a motocross opponent, and race team partner, sailor, and all-around fun and funny guy, finally lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this past fall.
After his motocross career he went on to motorcycle road racing and won Daytona, Sebring, 24 hour Nelsons Ledges, and many others. He is a legend in road racing.
I wrote and recorded a song about him in Chicago, "The Ballad of Reverend Sam Williams" which you might want to check out on my music website:
www.RickWhiteSings.com In lieu of a service, a wake was planned for him in the spring, but at the time a date was not set. Well, they set the date for the 19th in Akron, Ohio, a date we had originally set.
Quite a few people have signed up for the seminar and the change came ONLY after conferring with the folks already planning on coming. I thank them dearly from my heart for going along with the change.
About the Seminar
After quite a few years of retirement from doing my sailing & racing clinics, I have been strongly urged to do one more. Due to pressure by a number of people I will do ONE MORE for the Giffer.
If you are not familiar with my course, it is a race clinic on steroids, complete with hundreds of starts, tacks and mark roundings, with me yelling at you and video of you performing. After 20 years of putting on seminars with over 45 world-class guest experts helping me, there is a wealth of information awaiting you. The course has graduated over 3000, most of whom have been in the winner’s circle, and includes 8 Olympic Medalists.
You WILL get a LOT BETTER at sailing.
It will be restricted to Waves only for a number of reasons:
1. Even if you are a high-tech cat sailor, the Wave will let you concentrate on the basics and not have to worry about a jib, a spinnaker, outhauls, downhauls, boards, etc. Just focus on sheeting and steering. This way you can develop a great feel for the helm to walk up lanes on the upwind leg to gain great tactical positions.
2. Again the simplicity of the Wave will allow you to concentrate more on starts, tacks and mark roundings. After all the start is 90% of the race. The other 90% is Mark Rounding. And a blown tack is just giving competitors a boat length per second lead on you. Once you get those down pat you can go back to your regular boat and nail it.
3. The fleet of boats will be in very close proximity and a few bumps and grinds might happen. With the Wave there is rarely any damage.
4. There are a few boats available for charter in the area as well.
The venue is Ruskin, Florida on the southeast shore of Tampa Bay, and the cost is $900 for the three day seminar on April 24-26. Tons of accommodations in the area located at Sun City Center area.
