Cocoa Beach is double booked for the weekend. There is an offshore superboat race the same weekend. Our original finishing line is within their course but we are working with the city on an alternative finishing spot. The good news is that we will have a lot more interest in our event, the bad is that everyone needs to book their hotels as soon as possible before they fill up. The host hotel is the same as last year.

Cocoa Beach Hotel
Best Western
Second building north of The Cocoa Beach Pier.

Cocoa Beach, FL 32931

Yeah, but the helicopters trailing the superboats should give you an idea of their course.

Throw a few of Karl's drones in there splatting the helo / superboat windshields and you've got a party!

I hung off the side of one of those helos for the superboat circuit (rescue). Definitely under 500' ASL but the best seats in the house! The camera-copters were even closer. I figured there was more chance of a copter-copter crash than actual boat crashes, but I guess I should give the pilots more credit since none crashed the two years i did it.

Until you had to jump that is... Then you had to search for survivors while praying the other boats dodge your operations area (there are no "caution" flags) while your support boats get there, so traffic is barreling down on you at about 90+ mph in ocean swell.. A few close calls probably took 10 years off my life.

My sphincter still puckers after one boat dodged some of the wreckage and missed us by 10 meters or so. With triple props (Cuisinart, anyone?)
