Hi
First off i would like to introduce myself
My Name is Stephen Eshman some of you i already know (from Lake Bonney)

Grew up on Lake Bonny in the riverland till my late teens sailing anything i could get my hands on, moved to Adelaide to become a boat builder and have been doing it ever since. I have had Sharpies and Cherubs but the last 8 years i have been running a Sydney 38 called SLIPKNOT out of the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia
Keel boat sailing was amazing you sail 4 x 5 more than a dingies and as we had a crew of 10, it makes sailing more of a team sport.

It has come to the point in my life the the misses is starting to get her sea legs, so it is time to get a 2 person boat for me and her

If anyone has a MOZZIE with FIBER-GLASS hulls that doesn't sail it anymore i want to hear from you.

Although i am a boat builder i don't want to spend my time off having to repair the boat, If it just needs a respray that is about as far i am willing to go

Sails don't need to be anything special as i will get new ones made from Peter Dunk

Inter state is fine i am willing to fly over to have a look for the rite boat.

The sooner i get one the sooner i can get up to speed, and train the misses,

That is about it really

So i just bought JUST DO IT
Thanks for everyone's help. It is going to be a very steep leaning curve for both myself and the misses. I cant wait to meet and have a beer with you all.

I will keep you posted on how our progress is going.
I am sure i will be asking stupid questions on things till we find our sea legs

So here is the first stupid question.
i have sailed small boats most my life but not cats, so what should i do if the boat goes all the way up side down. This has played on my mind a bit as we will be going out training on our own. Mono is easy just stand on the lip and she will come up.

Anyway See you on the water
Cheers Esho

1. seal mast so it turtles slower.
2. if it does turtle first try righting it sideways with a righting rope.
3. In the event that doesn't work both move to the back for the boat on one side. Bow will come up and then boat will roll onto its side. The you can right sideways using the righting rope.

As always make sure the boat is facing into the wind before you start.

Esho,
if there are two of you only about 1 in 10 capsizes will end in turtling, and that will mostly be when you are unable to uncleat sails/travellers in time or the wind/waves push you over. The good thing is when the boat is turtled it is really easy to get onto the tramp as it is at water level.

Uncleat all sails, stow the spinnaker and get your crew sits on the back of the hull near the rudder. If you join her or just stand that back quarter of the tramp the opposite bow will come up. Grab your righting rope and lean out and then boat will come back on its side.

If your righting rope is set up at the right length with an eye/ring you put the eye/ring around your trap hook and hike out level with the fwd beam the boat will right itself really easily for anyone who weighs more than 80kg (just ask if you are unsure about the righting rope set up as it makes life really easy when done correctly). The boom will slide out to the end of the track and sheet, and the mast will start to rise, increasing speed as the sail clears the water. If anything it may right too fast and there is a risk of it going over the other way, but holding onto the righting rope in the water stops this.

Unfortunately I am well versed in righting the boat, but having a well set up righting rope and a bit of practise greatly reduces fatigue and you get really quick at it.

Luke
