The 14th running of Hiram's Haul is set for October 31 - November 1. The catamaran race is a total 60 mile race running from Melborne, Florida to Sebastian, Florida on Saturday and back to Melbourne on Sunday. Hiram’s Haul started in 1997 has been hosted by Performance Sail and Sport until last year when Sail Series Promotions USA took over as the Organizing Authority (AO). It is one of four races of the Endurance Sail Series and each day counts for points separately.

Register early, reserve your room early, SAVE MONEY!
Early registration is encouraged and maybe accomplished by registering before September 30th, 2015. You may register online or by mailing in the entry form which can be found online at www.SailSeries.com/hiramshaul. Entry fees may be paid on the day of racing, but if not registered early, the fee will increase to $90.

Early hotel arrangements are encouraged at Captain Hiram’s Key West Motel at Phone: 772 589 4345. Rates are protected at a 30% discount for the first 15 registrants until 30 days before racing, September 30th, 2015 using promo code “HH15". More rooms can be added if registrations dictate. There are a few other hotels, and even one or two B & B’s in close proximity.

The first day of Hiram’s Haul starts on Halloween morning with a gran prix style start at the POW/MIA Park in Melbourne and ends at Riverside Park just one mile South of Captain Hiram’s in Sebastian. Captain Hiram's will host a Halloween Party including live music Saturday night which has always been a specatacle not to be missed. Sunday is a run back to Melbourne with a standard water start. After racing concludes on Sunday, there will be an awards ceremony with food available.

Following the action for the race is easy with live Kattack tracking and live video streaming of both starts and both finishes. The race will also be easily visible to any spectator along river on either day of racing.

Hiram’s Haul represents a perfect venue for two great sprints for all ranges of competitive levels, and scenic backdrop in the protected, flat waters of the Indian River Lagoon. The Indian River Lagoon is part of the Intracoastal Waterway that stretches as far North as Maine and as far South as the Florida Keys.

Capt. Hiram's Resort offers an island resort atmosphere right on Sebastian’s River Front. The Sebastian Florida Hotel is designed to appeal to weekend travelers, fishermen, business travelers and long term guests. The Resort has King or Double Queens room types. All of the smoke-free rooms have private balconies, many overlooking the beautiful Indian River. This year Captain Hiram's Resort has stepped up involvement and offered a night lodging for the winner.

Hotel Amenities: coffee makers, small refrigerators, hair dryers, iron and board, In-room safes, 43” Flat Screen TVs, and complimentary WI FI. The free-form, heated pool is landscaped with tropical foliage. Coin laundry and vending machines are also available to the guests.

Guests of the hotel enjoy full access to other wonderful features, including the riverfront restaurant and 4 bars: the Main Bar, the Bahamian-style SandBar complete with Bimini Beach, the Coral Bar and Scoops. We also have the Grand Stand Bandstand with great live entertainment 7 days a week, the Boatique Gift Shop, and the Marina nestled on the Intracoastal Waterway has 60 boat slips available and you can enjoy deep-sea and river fishing; scenic river cruises on the Indian River Lagoon, jet ski and boat rentals, and kayak tours.

RESORT FEE: $3.00+tax (per person, per night) Inclusions: Daily $3.00 (per person) discount off Breakfast, Daily use (one per day) of Kayaks, Stand Up Paddleboards, or Bicycles (based upon availability), Local Calls, In-Room Internet, and 10% discount in the Boatique.

Reduced rate reservations and registration must be made before September 30th, 2015 using promo code “HH15". For more information contact the Captain Hiram's today!

Great News and congrats on your 7th at the F18 America's! The first day sounded brutal.

Please ask them to fill out an online entry to save work on Saturday morning. We have a great mix of Spin and Non Spin boats.

Mark Herendeen is planning a sail from near his house to the POW/MIA Park (Race Start) on Friday which is just over 20 miles. Anyone interested can set up at the park in his neighborhood. Be prepared to launch by 1:00pm.

Mark and Lisa are also going to have a casual social at their house Friday night starting at 6:30. Eat before you come and BYOB. His house is a great location for a party.

This is all last minute and very casual but should be a lot of fun. New sailors can talk to the "Old Salts" about the course and of course Saturday's party. I will send out and post more info on this Monday.

We will have live tracking all weekend so download the Kattack app and have your phone charged up for the race. I will also be doing live video of the starts testing software. I will have my van for any luggage transport and to shuttle to and from Captain Hiram's.

My family is coming up Saturday and we are probably going to wear costumes Saturday night.

Hiram’s Haul Friday Pre-Race Events

Mark Herendeen is organizing a practice feeder race from a private community park in Melbourne Beach (ironically only 1000 feet from his house), for a warmup fun distance race north to MIA-POW Park on Friday. The run is a little over 20 miles. Any teams wishing to join in must have boats rigged by 1:00 and ready to go. Kattack tracking will be available for this pre-race event so you can test the system and your smart phone. Please have your smart phone charged with the Kattack app downloaded.

On Friday evening Mark and Lisa Herendeen will also be hosting a social event at their house starting at 6:30 pm. Sailors are welcome to a spaghetti/meatball dinner social. There is one catch…you HAVE to let them know you are coming and how many guests you are bringing. The event is BYOB. This social is intended to allow time to get know everyone, plan for next year and discuss the addition of one other distance race from Downtown Melbourne’s Riverview Park as well as regattas out of that park.

The Friday evening social is also a great time to ask other experienced sailors about the race, course, conditions and sailing in general. There may be a chalk-talk/white board discussion Friday evening at the house.

80% of Hiram’s Haul takes place in the City of Melbourne’s portion of the Indian River Lagoon passing right by Downtown Melbourne. The last causeway going south the fleet passes under leads into the Downtown area. The 15 acres and 400 feet of waterfront that is Riverview Park sits just about 800 feet from the ICW that Hiram’s Haul follows.

NOTE = Ground crew is not necessary for the Hiram’s Haul but the 1st day (Saturday) finish ends at Founders Park has a huge parking lot allows for lots of trailers, so ground crews have ample space to park trailers if you want, very close to the boats. There is going to be at least 1 trailer rig and a pickup truck available to carry your dolly wheels, gear and bags.

Information on the social will be available at MIA-POW Park on Friday afternoon or contact Craig Van Eaton (561.371.2663) at info@SailSeries.com.. For more information on the fun run contact Mark Herendeen directly or Craig Van Eaton.

Sail Series Promotions wants to give a special thanks to Mark and Lisa for organizing this fun run and social. These types of extra activities help make the race weekend special for the sailors and race committee.
