They don't advertise here much, but there are 73 Hobie 16s racing at the NAs this week. Comments, etc. are only for the Facebook-enabled.

However, results and official docs are here: http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/10102#_newsroom

Anybody down there with more info? Please chime in...

Looking at SailFlow, they had northerlies in the teens yesterday. EDIT: A different station showed southerlies, blowing over 20. Sure would be nice to see something from someone who's there!!!

Four races were scored, and some redress was awarded. No DSQs that I saw.

Today is forecast to be light from the east.

Can't wait to get back to racing Hobie 16s!

One race scored so far today. Breeze appears to have started from the south today, but looks to have shut off and inverted...

Wow, what a dearth of easily available info online. Even the FB page appears to have no updates since the start of the event?

There are some brief summaries appearing on SB:

Preview: http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2015/09/17/preview-of-hobie-16-north-american-championships/

Monday: http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2015/09/21/opening-day-for-hobie-16-north-americans/

Tuesday: http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2015/09/22/tough-sledding-at-hobie-16-north-americans/

So, they lost four scheduled races on Tuesday. I don't see an online notice to start earlier today to make anything up. The class has been rather vocal about being OK with losing races rather than lengthening days.

Local weather (news) showed rain and thunder in the general panhandle yesterday, not sure if they actually saw that in P-cola. Forecast for the rest of the week looks better. ENE today, 5-10 knots.

Mike and all,

Pensacola Yacht Club is proud to be hosting the Hobie sailors many of us have known over the decades.
They saw rough weather early from an unexpected collision of pressure systems off the east coast. Today we are still watching a tropical pulse in the center Gulf, but the boys and girls should be seeing force 3 - 4 with maybe a code 5 puff card on the water near the strong out-going/ebb current. So Chamber conditions are expected for the remaining races of the series.
I have been busy putting up a picket fence for my new Shiz-shuh and the King Charles Spaniel, so I have not been near the club much. The boy staying with me has been sailing with Dan Williams and the Kaneohe Hobie Fleet, and has retired from the Air Force to Pensacola/Gulf Breeze.
I will be down there today, but I feel Matt will have a report once they are back on track.

Thanks Bert.

SailFlow looking lighter than forecast so far today, no results so far either.

Still no new results or notices up. Here's the FB page, some stories pics and vids, but if there's anything close to real-time, I'm just not finding it:

One race scored (so far) today. After six, Jason Hess is clearly trying to walk away with this. Positions 2-5 are only separated by five points!

They're having a "real" cut party tonight, gold and silver racing for the next two days.

Results aren't currently showing, must be getting updated.

There is a notice bumping the start time up to 10 am (CDT) for the next two days.

Results have been updated within the past hour. They raced three total yesterday, Jason and Irene ripped out another set of bullets. Places 2-5 had some shifting, and widening gap between them.

No mention of who is sailing gold vs. silver yet (on the official site or FB, from what I can tell), but Wednesday's SB story says top 37 are gold:

http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2...ntinue-to-lead-hobie-16-north-americans/

Also no mention of whether points carry from the qualification round into gold/silver. In the past, gold would carry their scores, and silver would get a fresh start. I think that with nothing in the NOR or SIs (or amendments), the default would be that all scores carry forward, but I'm surprised it's not spelled out (beyond 'series score is the total of race scores'...), just for the avoidance of doubt.

Looks like very little work for the jury this week?

A little over an hour until the first race today. Current conditions and forecast look good, ENE near 10 knots.

Results page is blank at the moment, hopefully that means they're racing and adding scores!? SF is showing actual breezes much lighter than the forecast.

A bunch of pics were posted on the FB page last night, presumably from yesterday's "action." Looks like it was really, really light.

Hey Bert -

Does PYC own "Maxine" (committee boat in the FB pictures) or is that a volunteer's boat? If it is a volunteer's boat, it has been around a long time and the volunteer should be commended.

Howdy Tom,

"Maxine" is a series of vessels in honor of Maxine Sansom. Maxine was the mother of Doug Sansom, a Flying Scot aficionado, with strong allegiance to the Gulf Yachting Associaion. Maxine was as dependable as a scheduled race on the calendar for volunteering and getting a worthy job done that day. Pensacola Yacht Club dedicates our signal vessel in her honor.

Matt did not know if he would like the signal flag display design by Dan Owzarczack, our shipwright. I am hoping to drop by tomorrow afternoon and scrounge some story. I sure hope to find Matt and the fleet in a good mood...

Great story, Bert!

Results are up (I was watching all day yesterday, kept getting a blank page?). Gold showing results for three races, silver only has one. I'm sure there's a story there...

Anyway, lots of movement in the top 10. Except for Jason and Irene, who despite sailing a new throwout (9), got two more bullets, and have earned a 30-point lead over second place going into the final day.

SB story here:

http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2...ominate-day-at-hobie-16-north-americans/

On the FB page, there are some new pics, some showing double trapping, and I swear I saw spray in two of them!

I don't want to talk about what I'm seeing in SF's forecast for today...

Something odd I just noticed: In the SB story, Jason and Irene were reported to have won "all three races" yesterday. Looking at the results (updated within the past half hour), they showed 4 races yesterday (races 9,10,11,12), with race 10 abandoned, and Jason/Irene getting a 9 in race 12.

Still no change to the silver results, looks like they only got one race yesterday.

Looking at SF data, they should have been racing at dawn today (said Captain Hindsight). Forecast is for another mid-day big shift (aka wind-killer). Not an easy week for RC, for sure.

90 minutes since the scheduled first start today, no results yet. Looking at SF data, it seems to have dropped and started a big shift already. Hopefully they got one in before that got too miserable.

Results are blank again, hopefully they're being updated (aka, hopefully they've been racing). Wind seems to have increased after the shift. No starts after 1500 CDT today.

Results are up, still saying provisional.

Gold appears to have sailed three today.

The silver fleet also had an abandoned race, also number 10, and appear to have ended with three fewer races than the gold fleet.

No surprise, Jason Hess and Irene Abascal won the event. Highest Americans were Mark and Grace Modderman, finishing third. Adam Atherton and Diane Bisesi (204, 204, 204) won the silver fleet.

Can't wait to hear stories from folks who were there!

Mike
