Hello,

Been a few discussions about it.
Seems a good way of having us NSW / QLD mossies sail together.

Here are some suggested regattas / locations to put a 12 month series together.
Could add in a couple of standard club races to put an even spread on the sailing.

Greg/Debra - could Grafton do one of your island loop races and a short course? to make a good day of it? in March or Sept? and we could come down for a weekend.

Jan - Lake Samsonvale New Years Regatta - Samsonvale(Qld)
Feb - Heaven Can Wait - One Lap Dash - Toronto(NSW)
Feb - The Great Race - Southport(Qld)
Feb - Twofold Bay Regatta - Eden(NSW)
Mar - Lake Jindabyne Regatta - Jindabyne(NSW)
Apr - Easter Regatta - Lake Cootharaba (Qld)
May - Peel Island Marathon - Cleveland(Qld)
June - Wivenhoe Winter Marathon - Wivenhoe Dam (Qld)
June - Brass Monkey Regatta - Toukley(NSW)
June - Sauna Sail - Latrobe(Vic) tough ask but would be great...
July -
Aug -
Sept -
Oct - Wildcat Regatta - Forster(NSW)
Nov - Cat Challenge - Lake Cootharaba(Qld)
Nov - Bridge to Breakers - Harwood(NSW)
Dec -

Thoughts? other locations / regattas?

A small fee when you sail, keep a point score and have some prizes at the end.
I can put together something around it if the spirit is there.

I'm up for that.
Probably wont be out sailing until June after the vet has finished with me.
Someone has to be at the back to block other boats so you fast blokes get some clean air.

I really like the idea and will participate but I reckon one a month is better. Especially with all the driving.

Hi Alan,

Good to hear from you.

Nic...
Nothing like a road trip.....repeatedly....

Yes, would like to narrow it down to an agreed set of dates and locations.

Some of those events occupy similar dates too and would not work, so a choice to be made.

Maybe one year could be one regatta and then adjust slightly the next....spread the mossie love around so to speak.

You Qld Mossies are welcome at Grafton any time, but you need to be aware of the limitations here. Since it is on a river the sailing is somewhat restricted, and like all inland places the wind is often fickle.

We would not recommend the Island races as the channels either side of the islands are quite narrow; on a Mossie it is too much tacking for too little gain.

You have a lot of other dates on your proposed calendar; I would recommend slotting Grafton in where ever you can fit it.

Regards,
Greg & Debra.

Hi All
In regards to this Queensland / NSW Traveler Series

this is from a few replies that i have received
we will make it at about 5 regattas

starting
Easter Regatta at lake Cootharaba
Wivenhoe winter Regatta weekend
Wild Cat
All Boats Lake Cootharaba
Cat Challenge Lake Cootharaba
dates to be verified

this is just my option and this is available to be changed
all Queensland and NSW Mosquito sailors are eligible and will have automatic entry but only sailing in spinnaker division
we may ask for $5 to $10 one off cost to buy a trophy

more details to follow very soon as Easter is almost a pond as
all options are needed due to list years traveler series is starting in only 6 weeks
ok chat soon
could you all reply on this forum
as you have noticed there is three regattas at lake cootharaba just because it is a world class venue with plenty of camping area

Hi Brett, sounds like a good plan.
I will be back sailing for the Wivenhoe Regatta and all the others after that. Looking forward to Wild Cat as have never seen the coast down that way, always just driven past.
Regards. Alan

Hi,

So who is making it to Cootharaba for Easter?

Dave is in.
I have to choose between mountain hiking trip and regatta.
Brett is out, going to Sydney, what is with that?

Camp ground says it is full.
Houses are full.
Elanda Point has space, short drive.
Or stay in Tewantin and run out each day.

Dave has kindly offered me to share his ute tray to sleep on and a pillow....
That may be the decider...how could you refuse....!

Who else? anyone?

Nic - surely you can fit a couple of beams by then....!?!

Hey gents, I'd fit the beams but am o/s at the moment. I'll see what I can do when I get home. I'd like to give it a run if possible.

Hi,

Have put some life into this.

See below, included the nationals...it is a travellers series after all !!

Regattas
Easter Cootharaba
Peel Island
Wivenhoe Winter
Winterbash Humpybong
Allboats Cootharaba
Wildcat
Cat Challenge
Bridge to Breakers
Nationals

Gives you 9 opportunities.

Points are simply the order of finish for the mossies out of whatever division we are in.
If no one sails a regatta - no points.
If 1 boat sails then others get max points for possible number of boats in the fleet for each race.
At present fleet is 6 unless I missed someone.

Separate point score for turning up, point a race that you start.

Wondering if we make that for any race you start, home club, somewhere else....?!
You will have to email me when you sail.

Prizes

Racing prize - lowest points from racing.

Participation prize - highest points from turning up.

Lucky boat prize - mmm....something for that too, drawn at random from all boats.

First year is on me.

Will arrange a trophy and a bottle of something for a prize.

Current standings are -

Racing

Dave M - 9
Drew M - 9
Nic M - 36
Brett K - 26
Alan E - 36
Greg & Debra - 36

Participation - travellers

Dave M - 6
Drew M - 6
Nic M - 0
Brett K - 2
Alan E - 0
Greg & Debra - 0

Participation - overall
Will have to work that out.

Best of luck.

Get your boat wet to have a chance.

Hi Nic,

Is the boat fixed? seem to remember you were replacing beams or such...?

Bugger about the shoulder, hope it repairs quickly.

Boat is all finished and ready to go. I finished it just in time to hurt the shoulder 😱

Shoulder is getting better slowly and I should be ok for the wildcat.

Hi Matt,

Wildcat? that would be a road trip and a bit.
Nice you were hoping to make it, maybe another year.
Big effort the other year for you and others to go there.

We have another regatta up in Bundaberg on same weekend as wildcat, that may go on our calendar too.
May have to alternate or something.

Hope that new boat comes along soon.

Hi there,

Sailing update.

Allboats Regatta - Lake Cootharaba - 20/21st August
4 races in with some light and shifty breeze making it challenging.
Great regatta at a great place to sail.

Results

Overall Div 4 - corrected on handicap - mixed fleet - 25 cats
2nd Drew 1816 Toast
4th Dave 1826 Jester

If I had sailed maybe 10 seconds faster in last race would have got a first, shows that every moment counts.
Foiling A Class smoked it in last couple of races, those things are quick and a good bloke sailing it.

Mossies only
1st Drew
2nd Dave

Points

Traveller
Drew 13
Dave 17
Brett 54
Nic 60
Greg & Debra 60

Particpation
Dave 11
Drew 11
Brett 2
Nic 0
Greg & Debra 0
Alan 0

Bridge to Breakers and Cat Challenge on same weekend in Nov.
Substitute Humpybash 15/16th October for Bridge to Breakers.

Get those boats wet.
