I recently discovered that Stiletto has joined forces and is launching a new X-series of family affordable, easily beached and trailered catamarans.

One model is a stable foiling boat within the reach of young families and should be pretty exciting.

It'll be very interesting to see if they can make a foiling cat that size for less than $100k as they purport on their website.

However the designs look tasty!

The new and "tasty" Stiletto foiling and standard design beachable sailing catamaran development is well underway.

See progress at:

https://sailstiletto.com/stiletto-x-series-takes-shape/

At that site you will also find the following, plus more if you hunt a bit:

There are many exciting aspects of the new Stiletto-X design. The most notable are the tasteful modern styling; sexy foils on the Xf model; and the contemporary longeron/trampoline design. A deeper look at the design’s performance and certification specifications reveals a long list of value-added features that distinguish the new Stiletto X-Series, like its predecessor, as a phenomenally high-performing, family friendly, and financially attainable sailboat. Surely, the features of the Stiletto X-Series will anchor it among the world’s leading multihulls.

Stiletto X-Series Production Under Way

Mold fabrication of the Stiletto-X was contracted to Symmetrix Composites Tooling. Although fabrication began just three days after completion of the exterior hull design, approval of the shape and performance characteristics was by no means hasty. Since founding Stiletto Manufacturing, Inc., 12 months ago, Company Director Jay Phillips has consulted with Stiletto owners, the original Stiletto 27 design team, and industry professionals. The knowledge gained from the months of research – combined with state-of-the-art virtual performance modeling and world-class engineering by Schickler Tagliapietra – culminated in the sleek, high-performance design.

Michael Reardon, Stiletto-X product development manager, recently traveled to New England to oversee the progress of the new design taking shape. Symmetrix is recognized as one of the most technologically advanced composite tooling companies in the industry. Recent projects include the celebrity ocean racer Comanche, as well as previous America’s Cup Class designs and aerospace projects.

ABOUT SYMMETRIX COMPOSITE TOOLING

Symmetrix Composite Tooling is a composite center of innovation in Bristol, R.I. In its latest iteration, Symmetrix is a 40,000-square-foot facility of purpose built CNC digital fabrication. Its 5-Axis CNC Machining Center is state-of-the art, allowing the quick and precise creation of seemingly impossible complex forms, quickly, and with extreme precision.

Also, Stiletto will offer both a cassette style "daggerboard" or the standard Stiletto "kick-up" rudder options. The pinned daggerboard option accomodates the foiling boat rudder system. The non-foiling blade would use the same rudder casing and slide up and down with no t-foil on the bottom. The new rudder system is designed to be well balanced with very little helm when the rudders are down. When retracted or kicked up, sailing the boat is more of a sail balancing act, when there is very little rudder in the water, the rudder will get overwhelmed and just have no effect.

The cassette style rudder will be well suited for running charter Stiletto boats in shallow water, where it may be handy to sail almost rudderless across sandbars or mud flats that may have 12–20 inches of water over the bar or in shoal water docking areas.

I suppose in a non-foiling version of the new Stiletto, kick-up or cassette daggerboard syle rudder systems are a matter of personal preference, but is nice to have the option.

It's a couple of guys that used to work for Gunboat(sold one of them one of my A cats) and they are set up in Plymouth NC right up the road from the Outer Banks. Drove by today and they look to be refurbing an old stiletto.

They otta do that refurbishing thing on it.

Stilettos are like over grown beachcats, with a port-a-potti and nav station to keep the wife and kids happier, longer...but gotta keep the beachcat also for the trill and speed rush...

Keep the kids happy with a bungee cord tied to the back of the boom and let them jump over while sailing... boing!

I almost bought a Stiletto when I first started racing. made an offer to a guy down at the Miami Yacht Club but couldn't agree on good price for both of us. I really like the Stiletto and even more if it can foil and beach!

Cuz the family (including myself) has a tendency to fall of the back. part of the deal with a boat designed in Australia... where everthing that moves can and will try to kill you.

Stiletto X-Series

With the molds completed the Stiletto X-series is now in prodction.

Five (5) pre-production boat orders are in, which may say a lot about the strength of the brand and the new Product Development Team and a sign for the demand of the new boat.

That is five have been willing to bet on the boat without an actual sea trial, but these owners may not actually be betting on a boat; but instead are betting on the strength of the Stiletto design and production team and foiling on the new Stiletto Xf.

Meg Phillips, has a unique background in product development, merchandising and web development joining from public fashion giants like Eddie Bauer and Chico’s. She is bringing us a unique new way to market Stiletto through the internet and Charter Affiliates! The Charter Affiliate Program is gaining a lot of interest – as it should. Many sailors have the dream of being on the water for a living.

Running a Stiletto Charter location may be an opportunity to earn or supplement a living on a new sailboat.

Michael Reardon (now part of the team)has built many successful boat lines over the years, including having been involved with 25 Boat of the Year projects! His experience with the G4 development and time on the boat are perfect for our Stiletto Xf product development. “Simple Stable Flight!” Michael’s favorite new catchphrase is how the team is developing the Stiletto Xf. Vendors seem to see Mike coming, and the doors of discounts and generous credit terms spring wide open. We could not produce this boat cost-effectively without his experience and know-how.

Doug Schickler and Davide Tagliapietra are now Stiletto engineering and design team with capabilities on the cutting edge time and again. Four cycles in the America’s Cup – Doug is great at answering design questions, not only for us but for anyone interested on newsgroups like Sailing Anarchy and Scuttlebutt.. The new boat is tackling some really challenging issues, many of which we have not shared because of the proprietary nature of things. High- Performance, Light, Shallow, Foiling, Easily Trailerable, and Family-Friendly….. Not many designers are up to the challenge, but Doug, Davide and their team are making our preliminary design objectives a reality.

Ron and Andy had to have shown a great deal of faith in this team – to allow and partner with us to pursue a new model under the Stiletto trademark. Their experience with Stiletto over the last three decades is invaluable, as is their steady level of input and advice as we have massaged the thin line to keep things true to Stiletto. The new Stiletto X should be great fun for everyone who gets a chance to experience it! Thanks, Ron and Andy, for all your help. In addition to being the exclusive dealers and parts depot for the Classic Stiletto 23, 27 & 30, they will also be leading our sales effort as the Regional Distributor of the Stiletto X Series in the Southeastern USA.

Brandon Harrison has been with this project almost from the start and has a terrific grasp of the computer CAD systems and is able to translate our ideas into 3D. Although a fairly simple boat, the new Stiletto X has some amazing new features distinguishing it as way above the capabilities of the Classic Stiletto. Much has been learned in 40 years. All the 3D models you see are Brandon’s handiwork, and the imagery says a thousand words.

Wildjibe and Stiletto Owners have also offered their combined personal experience with the boat, with feedback and input from Stiletto owners past and present. It’s like the boat has been an open development class, if you follow the Wildjibe history.

Stiletto Manufacturing will be running three charter locations in the North Carolina Outer Banks, as well as a new Stiletto Sailing School that will be called the Foiling School and sailing should be fun, but more fun on a foiling Stiletto.

The first production boat should be splashing into the water sometime this late Spring or early Summer, first in the North Carolina Outer Banks and then elsewhere.
