The foiling Stiletto X-series is nearing production with 2016 spent in preparation of the factory site, design and production development.

Stiletto's goal with the new X-Series is to once again realize the popularity that Hobie Cats brought to sailing.

Stiletto-X will be fast, beachable, easily trailerable, and affordable with over 540 sq ft. of dry deck space for a large crew of family and friends. It should provide the sailing world a product with widespread appeal and versatility,, and has been a step by step process, not without some sweat and tears.

Stiletto Manufacturing, Inc. issued a private equity offering on late October this year, and reports initial success selling 30% in just the first six weeks, to help fund this mammoth project.

Now, in the last week of 2016, Stiletto’s team are working round the clock to get the Stiletto-Xc001 prototype on the water for the New Year! This has included Randy Reynolds, designer of the Reynolds 33 and many others well experienced in the world of sailing and catamarans.

In 2017, the dream should becomes reality, as the Stiletto-X becomes avaialable for outdoor adventures in sailing, which now includes the sale of many pre-production boats and more sold on the bais of a sea trial.

I hope to be one of those sailing for the first time on the Stiletto as it splashes later in the new year.

The latest update from Stiletto is as follows:

The foiling Stiletto X-Series is soon to debut. Recently accomplished milestones have accelerated the pace of Stiletto-X development. Production efficiency, speed, and quality are on the rise as each station within the factory graduates from tooling and prototyping into production.

The new Stiletto-X has met significant challenges and significant hurdles finishing all the tooling including all the small parts necessary.

The launch of the Stiletto-X is imminent and is expected to exceed all expectations as it sails down the Scuppernong River in January 2017.

The first four Stiletto-X hulls were cured in two parts with the keel join being made afterwards using a secondary bond. While sufficient in strength and quality, the company’s goal has been to produce the hull in one shot with the keel join made integral to the hull.

Hull #5 was produced in this way significantly improving production efficiency in both the assembly and paint teams.

The keel join is made in the mold by interleaving each layer of laminate before bagging the whole hull in one large bag and curing.

The extra time spend in laminates is more than saved in assembly and paint.

The details of building a boat are hard to nail down until it comes time to build the parts, and this was certainly the case for the deck section of the new Stiletto-X.

The design aesthetic calls for inset and sleek fittings all around that meet the design requirements without blowing the budget.

Nailing down a cost effective solution for inset trampoline fittings, flush deck hatches, and a seamless beam insert is a big milestone.
