Rick,

You mentioned that the choice for next year's boat was supposed to announced at last night meeting. What's the scoop?

I really don't think it's going to be the Tiger. Hobie doesn't strike me as a company that wants to promote distance racing.

I would bet my money it's the Bimare Jav2. I am 98% sure.

I hope that you are right and that the F-18HT or Jav 2 is chosen for the next couple of years. The boat is definately proving itself with every race it enters.

I saw the boat and found the hulls are extra stiff and the beams are real beefy. The rudder lock down system does not seem appropriate for the W-1000, however I have learned that a new rudder system is being developed for surf sailing.

This boat will be exciting and a lot easier to handle, making it more appropriate for a wider range of crews. It should be safer because it is so much lighter.

When will the 2003 boat selection be announced or has it already?

There has been no official word from Mike Worrell as of yet. That is the skippers meeting in Miami.

It was not Rick who was guessing the Hobie Tiger, it was me, Mary. I don't have a clue what Rick would guess. I don't really have a clue what the boat will be, either -- I just threw something out there to get you guys talking about it on the Forum. We haven't heard about any announcement from Mike Worrell yet. Personally, I thought it was strange that he was going to announce next year's boat at the beginning of this year's race. Again, this says it is posted by Rick, but it is really posted by Mary. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to register myself on this forum.

The word is the entry is $3500 and for that price you get one SUV, one boat, and 2 hotel rooms. I was also told that a second boat is not permitted by the team.

I also heard the entry is $5000, so who knows what it's actually going to be next year.

Again this all rumor! Nothing more.

The announcement was that the 'all inclusive' fee will be $5000 and include boat, suv, two rms per stop, and entry fee. A limit will be placed on the number of teams allowed to accpet this offer at 30.

No announcement of the boat for 2003 has been made, dispite several reports to the contrary.
