Does anyone have any detailed tuning guidelines for the Hobie fx-one? I have only been able to find the basic guide from France...I found the boat in near perfect, virtually new condition and want to campaign the boat asap...I have extensive experience with the Hobie 20 but cannot find any advanced tuning tips anywhere...Help!

Hey Mike, always like the looks of the FX One, one of the few modern single handers, and wings!

Sailed around a few but no specific tips to offer, hopefully the forum gets cranked back up and an owner will chime in.

Ping Karl B..... before he was an F16 guy, he led a single handed campaign to get hobie world to support the FX1 with a NA's and promotion and buy in from the Hobie single handed 14 and 17 sailors.

Also, search the archive for Wouter Hs thoughts on the FX1, he chartered the boat for a week on holiday just after it came out and it figured into his support of the F16 idea.

I don't think the US ever held a one design FX1 race.... Critical mass never materialized. I would not be surprised if most of the imported boats were subsequently exported back to the EU.

Final contact might be Jim G, Jim sails Hobie 16s, Waves, Hobie 17s and owned an FX1 He raced it in at least one or two regattas and distance races.

I loved that boat. I don't remember any of the setup on it though. I remember big spreader rake and tension.

Do put a 16:1 downhaul on it. That mast was the worst part of that boat, it was a barn pole.

I'm boatless.

Mark and Karl, Thank you for your support.

Since the boat was in such great shape and cat sailing is all but dead on Long Island, I figured it would be a great single hand ride...Boat does not have the wings...they belong on tampons in my opinion...I'm looking for tuning info regarding rake, spreaders, tensions..etc...there is a one-page initial guide but that's all..I was hoping someone from Europe would see this and reply also...

Thus far, I've added 10:1 main blocks, spinnaker kit, self-tacking jib kit, carbon daggers, EPO rudders, new tramp, all new standing and running rigging including dyneema shrouds and staymasters, quick mast rotation release for downwind mode - same for boom....I would like to see some examples of a 16:1 downhaul if available however...

Just hoping for some data to jump start the curve...should be a good PHRF boat too..

Any input is greatly appreciated...

If anyone finds themselves on eastern Long Island...we have a small group of cats to race...always looking for more or just to crew...thanks!!

Mike,

Page 21 of the Nacra manual shows the 16:1 downhaul: https://www.nacrasailing.com/wp-con...al-Nacra-15-F16-N17-F18-infusion-C20.pdf

I recommend running this into the front beam per the Falcon Marine Diagram: http://www.theboatshop.be/Downloads/Falcon%20F18%20control%20lines%20layout.pdf

You could also do a similar takeup system under the tramp which is what the A-Cat guys do. I do have a swivel block setup that gets you the required purchase, if you need it.

Sorry, I don't have any tuning information for the rig/mast rake. I would start with the mast rake around 5-5.5 degrees and the spreader rake at 50mm, these are common baseline for almost every boat I have sailed.

-Sam

I watched this thread a few times but only just noticed that picture is from my old boat :-)
I've forgotten all of the tuning details but I think there should still be a lot of information on the Hobie forum if you scroll back far enough (2000-2010-ish)

Most of the basic setup like lines and rudder alignment is the same as F18s.
