www.obx500.com is the new and growing home of the Outer Banks 500. This race from Tybee Island to the Outer Banks will start on May 17 after the Tybee 500 finishes on the 15th on Tybee Island. These races will combine to form the Atlantic 1000 and teams can enter either or both races. Multiple winners in each class is possible with the winners of the Outer Banks 500, Tybee 500 and the Atlantic 1000 being different teams. The OBXCC has lined up some great hosts along the way with great hotels and parties all up the coast. Please contact us with any questions, observations, complaints, ideas etc. Much more info is on the website and our contact info is there also.

Finally a 1000 miles endurence test between boats of different make. Lets see how the designs compare.

Way cool, guys. I think I heard my club mate Gerard Loos talk about it already. He'll be looking to be there with a Hobie Tiger F18

Congrates to John and Brit and thanks to the Tybee race organization as well, HOPE this fantasic 1000 mile race becomes a perminent tradition for decades and future generations of catsailors are able to enjoy it as race patisipants -spectators , in the media ,-and great Catsailor coverage -gr crew -race or team sponsor -, or race organizers, it is fun to be part of ,-{though a little grueling at times} out there offshore-

Hi Wout --funny how history repeats itself -think Gerhard raced a Tiger in the 98 W-1000 ,-though like several had the boat disintegrate in the huge surf that year .
You must be about ready to tackle one of these ,
it is some long days on the water ,but a great adventure and experience ,-

Hi Charles

Couple of quick questions.

What is the North American spin for a 6.0 I understand its the NE spin as speced by the NE guys. Is there another spin size in play besides the 350 sq foot

What is the factory H20 spin. The H20 guys have been debating the merits of the F18 chute and the larger H20 chute?

What is a factory spin for a NAF18. My understanding was the sail simply had to measure in... factories were irrelevant.

What is a "Factory" Open class spin definition. Eg... a P19MX with spin

My understanding is that there will be no overall winner with this format... Is that correct?

Great web site!
Good luck and take care
Mark

I'm sure it is but it won't be within a few years. Don't have the money or time; but it is definately on my "would like to do one time"

The 6.0 chute will be the same as we sailed last year and is the NE chute. Hobie 20's would have to carry the factory spinnaker. The open class is open to all boats that fall within the rules (see the website).

The scoring and awards will be based on classes and no overall awards will be given this year. We expect classes in I-20, N 6.0, F-18 and open.

We would really like to see a F-18 class develop and with enough boats will consider giving them their own start.

Thanks for the interest and support and keep in touch.
