Hi Folks -
For those that haven't heard it yet, there is a US SAILING meeting in Mobile Alabama next month. In addition to the normal business that is conducted at these meetings, there will be a special meeting to consider a couple of minor changes to the by-laws. A notice has already been sent to the voting members, but I thought it might be of interest to people who aren't members, but would consider joining. The "strikethrough" doesn't show up in the post, so if you want to see the pretty, formatted e-mail, drop me a note and I'll forward it on. Here's the notice:
US SAILING
Notice of a Special Meeting of the Voting Members
Mobile, Alabama - March 13, 2004
The following amendments to the Bylaws of the United States Sailing Association, Inc. ("the Association") will be presented to the Board of Directors at its meeting on Friday, March 12, 2004, in Mobile, Alabama, for approval and initiation as required by the Bylaws.
A special meeting of the voting members of the Association will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Adams Mark Mobile Hotel, 64 South Water Street, Mobile, Alabama 36602, to consider and vote on the amendments initiated by the Board on March 12.
To avoid confusion, this notice and the comments on the changes are in a different font from the current and proposed text of the Bylaws. The changes from the current Bylaws are marked by striking through deleted text and underscoring new or changed text. These markings and the comments are for the reader's convenience in reviewing the proposed amendments; they are not part of the proposed amendments and will not appear in the published Bylaws if the amendments are approved.
This notice is provided to all voting members in accordance with Article Four, Section 3, of the
Bylaws of the Association.
By order of the President of the
United States Sailing Association, Inc.
Richard Hanneman, Secretary

PROPOSAL 1
COMMENT: The Association no longer publishes a "membership magazine" in the traditional sense. For that reason, the Board of Directors proposes to amend the Bylaws as set forth below to assure publication of the Nominating Committee's slate of nominees on the US SAILING website at least 30 days before each Annual Meeting.

(b) Duties - The committee shall nominate one candidate for each office to be filled by election at the annual meeting. The committee's slate of nominees shall be published in the Association's membership magazine in an issue mailed on the US SAILING website no later than 30 days before the annual meeting. The committee shall make its report at the annual meeting.
PROPOSAL 2
COMMENT: The Sailor Athlete Council's bylaws use terminology that differs slightly from that used in the Association's Bylaws. The following non-substantive amendments conform the two.
GENERAL UPDATING AMENDMENTS
The Bylaws of the Association are amended throughout to change "Sailor-Athlete" to "Sailor Athlete" and to change "Sailor-Athlete Advisory Council" to "Sailor Athlete Council".
