I'm in the market for a new main for the 5.5
THinking about going Sq Top, as I've only raced in a 5.5 class once in the past year. Looking at LOTS of sail lofts. Small and Large. IF you've bought a sail recently, please let me know your results and experiances.

Gratzi!

Calvert made a great square top and jib for my 5.2 a while back. I was very impressed with the quality and the price.

Hi TheoA,
Buy sails from a sailmaker who has made sails for your class of boat before. Buy sails from a sailmaker who sails your class of boat. With this experience base, you get the best sails. With no prior "experience base", you get their best guess.

But, I don't know how many 5.5 sails he has built.

Hello Dingram,
Calvert owns and races a N6.0. That is why he makes a good N6.0 sail. If you don't know about a sailmaker's experience in a given class, ASK.

Elliott Pattison makes all the stock 5.5 sails, and they make lots of square top sails for F-18, N20, N17R. They would be worth looking at. I know they spend lots of time testing sails before they are released on Performance boats. Skip Elliott makes A-Boat sails for himself also.

Theo,
I was in the market for a new main. I e mailed a bunch of them. Ullman sails out of California, was 1 of the 3 that replied. Charlie Ogletree dealt with me direct.

What a pleasure. After 3-4 rounds of e-mail, mostly the conditions of my area, boat type, skipper size and concerns. The deal was set.

It is a wild sail. The boat now sails like never before.
E-mail me privately if you are intrested in specifics.

Price,.......
