I don't know the story how this anchor was damaged cause it was like this when i bought it. It appears to be just the top of the deck where the is damage. There are only a few small hair line cracks runnings along the top. I think its only in the gelcoat. I guess my question is should i pay to have this fixed? The rivets aren't damged any nor are they loose. I can move the anchor only because i think it's flexing. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks everyone!!

I would repair it - if it were to fail it would be a certain dismasting. Secondly, it will very likely be a small leak into the hulls. What year is that 5.2?

Ouch! Bad memories.

I had a 5.2 where the shroud pulled right through a chain plate that was visibly in fine condition. Sling shot my 12-year-old son as she demasted.

Ronstan does not make the plate used in the 5.2 any more. Consequently, I ended up manufacturing a replacement from a mast tang that had the same dimensions as the chain plate. Only had to drill the necessary holes to mount.

Good Luck

Its a 1980. I don't think it's damaged anywhere near the rivets, it's just the top. How do you fix something like this? Drill out the rivets, insert a new anchor and rivet that in? Is this something i could do myself (i'm mechanical but have never done glasswork). Thanks all!
