Hello all F18 sailors.
By the way, this is a legitimate question;

Can I retro fit a I-17normal to make it F-18 legal?

lenght 17-6
beam , mast height, sail area, weight all can be accomodated.

JIb and spin kits are available, just need to order sails to F-18 specs.

Looking at the Nacra F-18 next to the I-17, on the beach,...shows almost the same hull, rig, mast, rudders, dboards, crossbeams, tramp, boom.....strangely very close.

Would the 6 inches in lenght be a issue?

regards,

Bruce

Bruce,

Had enought sailing on your own ?

Yes, the 6" would make a difference, longer boats are faster !

And the extra ? Kg you would have to carry (as lead) after adding the jib would be a pain...

F18 is 180 Kg. I17 (euro) with kite is 161Kg. cannot believe that the Jib kit would come in at 19kg !!!!!!!!

Not a good plan me thinks....

Yo Scooby,

Funny finding you here,..( just like me.)
Well, some strange happenings here in the Caribbean,...the regatta are making a trend,...no more separate spin class,...so we all race together, one class.

Plus there is a move with the Puerto Rico sailors to F-18,...so I see a change on the horizon..

Plus my son turned 12 today,...he now ( physically) is big enough to take on as crew and go in the ocean..

.....maybe I will just go 2-up with full main and spin....

FYI,..I studied the F18 rules,...MAX length is 18 ft,.......I could not find MIN length...

regards,

Bruce

yes, max is 18 ft...you will just be carrying a panality of -6 inches around which will give a performance hit.

Brobu, Im for Puerto Rico and want to get started sailing Cats, was adviced to get an H16, but im too large for it, and I kinda like the look of bigger boats better . So I was thinking of getting an TheMightyHobie18, or even an H17. Is it true there is a growing fleet of TheMightyHobie18's here?

If so maybe ill try and get an 18 instead of the 17.

Galeo,
Very few places sail a H 16 like the Puerto Ricans, you would do well to learn from your fleet, They are experts!...Thay have thier own web site too...

You may want to consider the F-18,.....it is the boat to have and your fleet is growing in PR

.get your boat!....go sailing!

Galeo,
GO see the race Memorial weekend.

There will be a I-20 there from St. Croix. In fact, it is there right now.

It is a sponsed boat, so everything is 100% maintained, it is a great boat.

The owner moved up to a Tornado. This is for sale.

I do not want to mention price,...but you will be surprized,...and it is within your price range.

You could well race this boat for the next 10 years and do well.

regards,

Bruce

Sometimes....We have some good guys in the UK, but I would say I can hold my own with most of them, and bigger stuff sometimes too (espically if it is windy !)

I've PM'd you some numbers [Linked Image]
