Space Coast totaled their windward rudder a la SeaCats. Brian from Brevard Challenge has been dry heaving for two days... too much for one guy to take!

Kirk was swept off the boat today - they lost five to seven minutes getting him back on board. Yikes!!!

Sorry, Dave, I can't do that. Don't know how. Rick will have to do it later by remote.

He has been really sick. I give him points for at least being there instead of in bed.

The rest of the finishers to this point:

8th -- OBXCC
9th -- Seacats
10th -- Jaypro
11th -- Windy Hill
12th -- Mezzo Speed

13 and 14 are still out -- that would be Team Loewen and Howard's Pub

Loewen has retired - came ashore at West Palm. Last boat (Howard's Pub) is in around 17:20 Eastern. Lots of bumps and bruises in the fleet. Reports that both Tybee and Castrol flipped simultaneously while fighting for the lead. Newkirk sustained a cut on his leg from the rudder tip after being swept off the boat - it bled for 25 miles or so, but he's glued it shut...

Tough day - two teams out, and one sailor injured and out.

Tomorrow - the Jensen Beach start. Hang in there, Tybee sailors!

Yikes, the Catsailor site has capsized in the surf. Rick must still be feeling sick. At least the pictures look good. Thanks for all your hard work, Rick.

It's a quirk in the album program. Rick put in the pictures and went to bed without noticing that the thing had quirked. Sorry. All fixed now.

It's my fault because I keep insisting that you guys want to see ALL the pictures and not just the ones he puts in the stories. So now he has a link in the Day 1 story to take you to the gallery with all the pictures he took for that day. He'll be doing the same thing for all the days.

We (I) want to see every thing from the mundane to the outrageous! It was great to see the pre-race write up this morning! 10 AM can take so long to get here sometimes!

Team Loewen and Brevard Challange?

From there standings in the results it looks like they are still permitted to continue with the race. They have been given a 30 minute penalty instead of a DNF.

I would like to see these two teams continue on.

The morning story about the start and some awesome surf pictures are posted on our main Tybee race page.

Rick is now on his way to Cocoa Beach.

Yes, that's great! Thanks so much, Mary. I definitely appreciate the option of seeing ALL of the photos. It won't bore me a bit.

Rick Loewen just called in a position update for the fleet. As of about 12:00 noon, passing Vero Beach, Castrol was in the lead, with Tybee about 2 minutes behind. About another 7 minutes back was Oz, followed by Key Sailing, Morada and Semp Toshiba.

All flying spinnakers and moving very fast.

I just got a call from the Seacats ground crew. The guys rang from the boat to say that their spinnaker pole broke and they blew out their spinnaker. Crapola! Anyway, since they're not reaching it hopfully won't ruin their day, but expect to see them later-ish then sooner. They have an extra spin in the RV, at least. About that pole, I didn't ask...

Well there goes my time guess!!!

Are they OK?

Rick Bliss' parts truck is already at the checkpoint - he has what they need to rig up a new pole - just talked to Chuck.

Also, Key Sailing just offered their spare pole.

C'mon Jake and Dave!

Richard Leaphart (Chief Ground Crew) says they're fine (which I believe) and in "good spirits" (of which I'm dubious). I think Richard just wants to keep me informed enough to post on the web site but out of worry mode. I'm certain there had to be a few choice expletives when that baby popped, at least. I can't wait to hear the unrated version of that story, in any case!

It's great to know there are repair and replacement options. Thanks for your support!

Bonnie,

next time you talk to Jake, tell him that Tad says "If you can't Duct it, F*CK it!"

(referring to the spinnaker pole that is, hell even the spinnaker itself hee hee)

First two boats are in. Castrol 1st, followed by Team Tybee about 2 or 3 minutes later. No other boats in sight yet.
