Rick,
Has there been any developments on getting a Worlds together this year?
If you want another qoute on getting sails done, I can see what Sabre would do. Last time I talked to them, they were in the $250.00 range per sail (to cover material).
Zach is excited about going if it comes together (We could all use a vacation in the islands!).

Thanks, Rick!

When do we need to get our plane tickets?

Also, we may be looking for a used Wave in the near future, if anyone knows about one, please forward the info on to me.

Sam

The folks in the Turks and Caicos had a big regatta last weekend and will be having a meeting to determine all of the factors.
At this time, they have one resort offering double occ. rooms at $90. That is great, but we still would prefer to use Club Med -- still awaiting a reply from them.
As soon as we hear the entry fee costs, We will announce it big time and also I will get a Group Rate from American Airlines.
With AA I will be given a group number. When you get your reservations, you just give them the group number from whereever you are flying and they will apply a discount.

More coming.

WOW, sounds like things are really coming together.

Rick, for us to make it down, we were thinking of having Zach do some local fund raising. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, are you guys coming up for the next Wave regatta at Key Sailing in September?

I have never had any luck doing fund raising, so you are definitely asking the wrong person.

SOunds like we will have excellent attendance in Pensacola. THe folks from NJ are coming, we will be there, the Woodruffs, et al. Lots of people for Zach to embarrass.
See ya soon,
RIck

Wonderful! I might try to get Jennifer to race on the other Wave we have here...

Time is running short for the Worlds. Are you still planning on the October time frame?

See ya in September!

I got this email back from David Douglas, who is coordinating things there:

Ok Mon,

Here we go. Great energy last Friday. The lads are pumped up.

Still no word from Club Med which will have a great bearing on the final $$. They are in the middle of a major facelift and are wanting to be sure they will be finished on time. The contractor says yes. So we go with the flow as it is the perfect venue for a lot of reasons. Security (which is not a huge issue here), proximity to our sailing shack, nicest section of beach, built in party venues etc, etc, etc. We have tentatively blocked 30 rooms at the Comfort Suites, which as mentioned is $90 plus tax and gratuity. So assuming Comfort Suites;

We plan an early registration Friday morn for those who haven't preregistered. Form will be up soon at www.waveworlds.tc. We will be racing from Friday morning to Monday afternoon. Following is a tentative schedule:

Comfort Suites includes breakfast in their package. Friday we provide lunch and dinner of local cuisine w/band. Saturday lunch and tentatively a dinner party hosted by the Governor. Sunday lunch and a Sunset Cruise w/bottomless rum punch and nibbles. Monday lunch and a presentation dinner.

Total registration assuming Comfort Suites would be $215. (Obviously with Club Med lodging would be more, but all meals would be paid for.) We are now assuming dinners would have an open bar. This is the hard one, as liquor is prohibitive here. $5 beer in the bars. We should have a major beer sponsor lined up shortly, which would allow for bubbly after all racing. T-shirt, trophies three deep in every category including a runoff for those that don't make the cut. Upgrades to the twenty boats would be new sheets, rudder cam assemblies and bearings, tiller arm assembles where necessary, lacing where necessary, and of course the new sails.

You've got the graphics as sent a few months ago. A consideration is that Club Med is adult only, but if any kids are planning to come I could probably find them housing among Club members. Our Junior program is just getting started, and we were considering just an exhibition for those guys.

Give me a week to get the web site up and running.

Hey Rick -

Leah has been to that Club Med several times - she's pretty excited. How will you do registration? First come?

Rick,

Thanks for the info. We are all pretty psyched about it. The Junior thing sounds a bit odd though. Does this mean that the Juniors would not be racing. You know Zach would not care if he was classified as an adult.

I guess that if Club Med will not allow kids, then we should consider the Comfort Inn option...although the all-inclusive thing sounds like a good deal.

HI,
It will be first served.
For registration, the upcoming issue will have an application and an ad with as much info as we have at the time. We will go by postmarks for the apps.

We plan on having the same classes as the Nationals: Open, Women, Masters and Youth.
About the kids part, Zach may be the only one there. and It is just that Club Med is an adult resort. Like David said they could house kids with locals, or at another hotel.

Since we have not had the opportunity to do something like this before, I have a question that came up.

Do we need any passport to go down there?

Is October still a good timeframe?

Passports would be better, but they have advised me that proof of citizenship and a pix ID is adequate.
October is the month, Columbus Day weekend with four days of racing and fun.
