Question about scoring a I17 with a carbon mast:

Does it has to be scored as a I17U or a I17R without a spinnaker?

Thanks

Well, it couldn't be scored as an I17U because the carbon mast is 30'4" whereas the I17 uni normal mast is 28'9". Also, the normal main sail is 160 sq. ft. and the I17R main is 170 sq. ft.

Tom,
COuldn't you take the DPN of the I-17R/spin,..and back out the conversion factor for the spin,..to get a non-spin I-17-R number.....just a thought..

Bruce,

I think there is a modification factor for a boat that normally sails with a spinnaker, but that is sailing without spin.

I was just stating what I felt sure about. Too bad you and Vicatman can't come up here for the Slip to Ship regatta in Ocean Springs this weekend. You guys would really enjoy it. We have three distance races of about 14 miles each. The first is to Ship Island which is maybe 12 miles off shore. They have chicken, rolls, water , beer , etc waiting for when we arrive. 2nd race is the return trip which is usually spinnaker all the way. 3rd race is around an island closer to shore on Sunday.
