Anyone attach footstraps to the wings on a getaway? Also, any spin set up tried?
Thanks,
Chris

not 30 minutes ago I ordered some footstraps for my H17 which should attach in a similar manner. The kit comes with self-tapping screws.

I'll have to use the force in order to get up in the wing tube :P

All right Obiwan(?), How do you suggest doing this? I too am planning on putting some nice straps on my wings. As I see it I have to go through the wing tramps/mesh. I think one would have to angle the straps in such a way that you drilled clear through both side of the wing tube, and then put a bolt w/ nut+ washer in order to "back them up". What do you guys think? Is that the way to do it? Jake, you don't think the self tapping screws will hold? They sure would be easier! I'd like to get another pair of straps to put on the deck lip at the back of each side. I sail with crew a lot, and have spent some time submerged while they were on the wing. It would be easier to stay on the boat with the straps!

Ahhh...crud. I thought you guys were screwing them into the fiberglass hull. I forgot about the wings. The self tapping screws should work well in the aluminum tubing (although I would feel better about the quality of the threads using a drill bit, tap, and non-self tapping screw).

I'll probably go with the self tapping, since I don't have a tap and die set, and I have so many projects, and so little time.

I really haven't needed them before, but I'm planning on pushing her a little further than I have before while out at the banks next week. Figured why not.

A self tapper into thin aluminum would have limited retension, especially if the strap rotatated any as you used it. Also corrosion would be a problem in time. people used to drill right thru the side bars on H16 an make plastic covered rope straps. i wonder if there is some version of this technique that could be used? Maybe even tieing on regular windsurfing straps.

Dave, Glad I didn't get to it this weekend! I think I will try to tie them on, or put a bolt all the way through. Thanks!
