I was at a local lake on Monday, but the winds were too high to sail. At least I had my camera along. My brother in law put his Cadillac to good use when we came along this young couple launching their PWCs who had backed their truck too far down a boat ramp.

Don't have any photos but I think I can out do you! Gentleman was launching a powerboat at my sailing club a couple of years ago and forgot to put the handbrake on his new Mercedes on. Car ran backwards into the water and floated long enough so that it came down on top of the raised concrete lip down the side of the slip. He had the windows open so it filled up nice and quickly. The recovery truck had to drag it off the side of the slip to get it out (we found the catalytic converter at low tide). The highlight was when the car was back on dry land having been submerged in 3 feet of water for an hour or two - the driver tried to use the remote control to unlock it. Fortunately he chose a night when there was a barbeque on at the club so there were plenty of people around to enjoy the fun - sorry, I meant to say "to sympathise with him"

This just happened on Lake Hartwell - home the Spring Fever Regatta

"Check out this boat wreck that happened on Hartwell the other day. It is a 38 foot Fountain. The owner had it for about a week and has not made the first payment on the 375,000 dollar pricetag. He was going 80 mph made a sharp turn, it threw him and his passenger out of the boat. He did not have his kill switch on, so it steadily accelerated until it hit the bank, went airborne and split on this tree."

I didn't hear about that one on Hartwell! Just look at how far away that boat is from the water!

I'm just glad that tree was there and not Nigel's new house.

Look how far that tree went through the hull.

Man, $375,000 could buy one heck of a catamaran. What an idiot. I'll stick to the wind.

I'm sure they realize how close they came to becomming a DARWIN award recipient. Dang, maybe next time!

DARWIN contestants usually keep trying until they get it right. I'll bet he will have a hard time getting boat insurance next time.
