Posts: 9,582 North-West Europe | The top 3 (and about 10 minutes to finish) as I can see it is 1 Gunnar larsen M20 2 Mitch Booth Hobie Tiger F18 3 John Moret Tornado. They are all 3 close together and it looks like Booth is overtaking Larsen. The leg to the finish is something lower than an upwind beat and a little higher than a reach. The make an arch away from the wind so the leg becomes increasingly more like a reach. This may very well help Booth in getting some extra speed.
But we'll only know when they finish.

On the GPS trackign Booth and Larsen are at the same position. The icons are fully overlapping eachother.
Will the M20 lose out to a sloop rig for the third time in a row (line honours) ?
On handicap the M20 is already fighting a lost battle.

Posts: 9,582 North-West Europe | Line honours listing
-1- Mitch Booth - Herbert Derksen Hobie Tiger F18 (still uncertain if they are DSQ for early start) -2- Gunnar Larsen - Xander Pols Marstrom M20 -3- Brothers Boulogne Cirrus F18
On Handicap (preliminary as we're still waiting for Hobie 16's to come in )
But the F18 are very likely to have all top 3 spots.

There is always confusion around the time of finishing and I was definately in the wrong circle of rumours.
Seems that the Line honours listing is (completly different from my earlier listing. Apparent the organisation didn't find it necessary to give GPS trackers to world class tornado crews like "Enrique Figueroa & Jorge Hernandez" and "Simon Northrop & Matt Young". Not to mention that Bouscholte lost his GPS tracker at the lighthouse. (correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think this is the first time for him)
Anyways :Apparently the listing is :
Line honours:
-1- Hans Bouscholte en Ruurd van Wieren. Eagle 20 Carbon (not onlike the US V20 when looking at the specs) 2 hour 41 minuten.
-2- Enrique Figueroa en Jorge Hernandez. Tornado (intl Torn so with spi)
-3- Simon Northrop en Matt Young. Tornado (intl Torn so with spi)
Now of these were shown on the GPS tracking.
Somewhere behind these 3. The GPS tracking leaders Mitch Booth+Herbert Dercksen Hobie Tiger F18 finished ahead of M20 sailors Gunnar Larsen + Xander Pols. Right behind Booth the F18 worldchampions Boulogne (Vincent and Emmanuel) finished sailing their Cirrus F18. The protest hearing will determine wether Booth has started early and is DSQ-ed or not. This is currently the tie breaker for first overall and first in the F18 cirquit.
Back to an earlier statement of mine. The uni-rigged M20 has failed a third time in finishing ahead of the Tornado's when facing long distance race conditions; meaning legs that aren't quite upwind beats or downwind legs. The upgraded Tornado is proving to be the wapon of choice for line honours with the F18's keeping the Tornado's on their toes. Wouter

Posts: 9,582 North-West Europe | Last year I was there as an Texel official and was allowed to wander around on race day itself as my work was done. This year I'm kind of strapped for money and didn't go at all. I followed the race via the internet and by speaking to friends who were on the beach at texel. Long live cellular phones ! Therefor no pictures from me this year. Results go to : http://rotdominoserver.ti.mon3aan.nl/IIS/finishlists/rot/index.htmlWouter

Posts: 12 | Hi, hope you dont mind a bit of self publicising but a racers view has to be given !! Facts from the race as i saw it, We GBR413 led fairly soon after the start and held the lead for about 20-30 minutes we were passed just before the lighthouse by 3 teams, 2 eale 20s (Bousholte being the first one), and actually the 1st boat round the lighthouse looked to be the A class of Lambrieux (i cant confirm this fact as we were concentrating on making the gate ourselves) the next leg a run to VC saw us and the eagles power away from the A-Cat so at v.c it was the 2 eagles and our Torn 3rd with the M20 4th, the next leg a tight reach to oudeschild saw us take the 2nd eagle with the 1st eagle establishing a 200 metre lead, after this gate the POR Tornado team came at at us and we held them off untill the southern tip of the island where they squeezed past. Next up a beat to the finish, with both torns grinding down the eagles lead Hans had enough of alead to hold on by a couple of minutes with us and the other tornado swapping 2nd and 3rd all the way to the finish with us just losing out on the last tack to the line by 20 secs with the next boat in the M20 3 mins later. On handicap mitch booth won and 8 F18s finished int the top ten (POR 7th us 9th) although there is some confusion about the OCS decisions (i dont know the facts about that at all) I hope that clears up the race a bit although i havent seen the TV or internet coverage i think it must be hard to give GPS tracking systems to everyone that could win as from 600 starters your going to miss someone out, its probably unfortunate that 2 out of the top 3 didnt have them and the one that did have one malfunctioned. As a final note i would like to say well done to the Texel Organisation for another brilliant event. My hat off to you for a well run race.
....and actually the 1st boat round the lighthouse looked to be the A class of Lambrieux (i cant confirm this fact as we were concentrating on making the gate ourselves) ...
I think I can confirm this by virtue of hearing about from various independent sources.
>>i think it must be hard to give GPS tracking systems to everyone that could win as from 600 starters your going to miss someone out, its probably unfortunate that 2 out of the top 3 didnt have them and the one that did have one malfunctioned.
That is of course true but I saw several sailors with GPS recorders that I know wouldn't be sailing in the top 50. Why not give these to true competitive teams like for example you as you did very last year as well.
But still is mostly talking in hindsight.
So congrats and till next year I hope !

Posts: 12 | Thnaks for your praise, we will definately be back next year (i think we may be selected for a tracker then !!!!) as we always seem to peak at Texel, we are also looking for sponsorship for next years event as at the moment our current deals with http://www.red-ins.co.uk/ and www.sandybags.com run out at the end of this year. We must be an attractive proposition for next years line honours as last years Texel in our first event ever sailing a Tornado we finished 6th on the water and 14th O/A and this year went 3 places better. So if there are any keen companies out there who would benefit from the massive publicity this race gets all over the world please get in touch. By the way we really appreciate the support from ordinary sailors like yourselves (we have mortgages, familys and full time day jobs to!!!) so once again Thanks. | | | Sailed a Tiger just like last year.

Sailed a Tiger just like last year.
It is an old pic of them. If you look at the video clip than you'll see them sitting on a Hobie Tiger
