can somebody please gice me some information on replacing the traveller on a prindle 16. I found the traveller at murrays for $70. Here is my question, I am unable to get the old traveller off because of a grey metal "cap" on the end of the rear crossbar. If i remove the crossbar from the hull, will the metal cap come loose or is it riveted in (it looks like it might be). The year of the boat is 1983 if it matters. Any information would be very appreciated. Thanks

I don't know if they are the same, but I replaced the traveler on my Prindle 18 last year. I had to drill out the rivets on the end cap to do the job. If you don't have a rivet gun to do those bigger rivets, and don't plan on doing lots of them in the future, there is an inexpensive gun at Harbor Frieght that will do the job. I think it's under $20.00. The new travelers have rollers on the guides, so it is much easier to adjust the traveler when it's under pressure.
Good luck,
Jack

You can remove the bolts, and then the rivets and cap, but I just filed the cap away in the area of the underside of the track. This allows the traveller to come off, and the bolt heads stop the traveller normally. The stainless roller traveller is a good deal. I just wish they would put proper larrge diameter rollers to guide the traveler sheet. I used Hobie rollers and a home-made top strap which worked OK( hEADS OF BOLTS THU ROLLER FROM UNDERSIDE OF TRAVELLER CAR PLATE WERE GROUND DOWN TO CLEar track.)
