Talked to the Race Committe Chairman last night to set the race course. They would like to wait until that morning and see what the conditions are. It will be given the morning of the race.
Bring your GPS.
See you Saturday.

Talked to Bert - he's using the PYC Bay Sailing Instruction markers, and says he's not sending us under the Bay Bridge - it'll be a steeplechase using 133 as the first and last mark. He won't commit to a course until skippers' meeting. Forecast looks like 5-15 westerlies going left for the day...

Bert Rice is RC this week end for us. As posted earlier, he will let us know the race course Saturday morning at the Skipper's Meeting. We're looking at 25 to 30 miles around Pensacola Bay.
I'd like to add a small change - we will be registering and have the Skipper's Meeting at Pensacola Beach Yacht Club. The club will open at approximately 9:00 AM for registration, skipper's meeting at 10:00 AM, race starts somewhere around 11:00 AM.
Also would like to add that we will have a cookout on the beach where we launch the boats as everyone finishes. Hamburgers, hotdogs and the trimmings with drinks. The trophies will be awarded at the same site, concluding with a few door prizes and free set of sails to be given away.
Hope to see all of you there!

Latest numerical guidance shows a huge explosion of convection between 0600-1800L. With the steering flow out of the north and a front laying close by, my bet is to go shopping at the mall! Will update tomorrow night when the latest data flows in. Had 1.5" hail and a Doppler indicated tornado in FWB today!

Forecast winds are up to 20 mph? Replay of Great Bay? I just wanna race, man... it's been perfect all week. Get to the weekend and we get "a huge explosion of convection??" What, am I makin' a turkey, here?
Oh, are we "small craft?"

Due to inclement weather in the morning and extremely light air in the afternoon, the organizers of the Trident Series have postponed the Pensacola Multihull Challenge (doesn't that sound like it needs a telethon??) to August 7th and 8th.
"Wait!" you might say. "How do you postpone a one day event to two days?" Well, I'll tell ya. The Key Sailing Mayor's Cup was already rescheduled to the 7th, and Kirk generously agreed to share the weekend with the Trident Series - details are yet to be worked out but it sounded like, for the price you would have paid for one distance race, you also get a day of bouy racing. Trophies will be awarded in three classes for the Pensacola Multihull Challenge, which will be a distance race on either Saturday or Sunday, and for the Trident Series which wraps up with that event. In addition, trophies will be awarded for the Mayor's Cup buoy racing which will be sailed on whichever day the distance race isn't... get it? Krik's working on overnight parking for boats on the beach, and the Trident folks'll still have the big cookout.
I heard they were putting together a new flyer for release sometime during the week. The folks who didn't make the drive out to the beach yesterday have been granted a stay - so you still have a shot at the Trident AND the free sails from Sabre.
Ahh, the vagaries of summer weather! Regardless, two I-20s, a Nacra F-18, an I-17R, a new Nacra 570 and the mythical CFR 20 all went for a pleasure drift after the thunderstorms cleared out, sadly taking the breeze with them. Congrats to Mark Smith and Bubba Barberi for "winning," by being the absolutely farthest from land when the wind completely died. Honorable mention to Kirk Newkirk for the downwind flip in about 5 knots of breeze. P-push it real good...
See you in St. Augustine! Woohoo, Fleet 111!

Thanks for getting the word out John. Yes, Mother nature did not cooperate this week end, so we will now prepare for an even bigger week end of racing August 7th and 8th. I will post a flyer with details later this week. One regatta entry fee, distance racing, bouy racing, cookout, three sets of trophies, what are you waiting for?
