I just noticed that one of my daggerboards has " sawed " a hole completely thru the upper portion of the daggerboard well. The area is actually above the upper gasket on the starboard side. Port side is damaged but isn't totally thru yet. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you repair it?

Tom,
I have the condition,..actually saw it about 12 months ago,..and have just been watching it.

The up and down movement of the d=goard against the well just sharpened the trailng edge of the d-board,...and,...yep,..it is 'sawing' into the well top.

Maybe a little West and carbon tape,...about 1 inch in width,...as long as it is something harder than the d-board material,..

...any ideas out there?

regards,

Chaps,

I have not had this problem at all. But I do keep the Schlegle (sp) tape in very good order and replace as required. I have also removed the rubber that holds the plate in place as I found that if you Schlegle tape from Laser www.lasersailing.com you do not need it to keep the plates in position as the tape is grippy without holding the plate very tight to the side of the dagger board case - this helped as I hit Thirslet spit here hard with the kite up and the plates actually came up a few inches (which was nice ) and no damage to the underside of the boat at all, just put the rudders back down and carried on down the track.

Our Team Seacats I20 had this problem in the wells. Our fiberglass guru/friend fixed it but I'm not sure what he did but I believe he made a slurry of epoxy and micro balloons to fill the cuts. He then sprayed a little paint on top.
