On the ring on the gooseneck where the downhaul attaches, I have a bungee going from there to a fitting like where the blocks attach too on the boom but on the other end(what do you call that?) is there any point for this? it came on the boom when i bought the boat. Ive had this boat for almost a year now and still trying to figure stuff out on it because NO ONE around here has a catameran, you guys are the only ones that can help me out. Kinda cool being the only one here with one though because my dad says people always stop him and say wow your kids doing a pretty nice job out there on the new boat of his..haha anyways anyone know what that bungee is for? thx

The bungee was probably used as a vang - it holds the sail out / down when sailing downwind in light air. Typically it would be rigged from the vang attachment (the fitting just aft of the gooseneck, called a "tang") to one of the front corners of the boat. You attach it to the gooseneck to store it when it's not being used.

Here's a photo from Bob Curry's Tuning Guide:

Do a Google search for "Hobie 14 Tuning Guide" - the photos are the fifth item down.

I thought that maybe Bob has it hooked up that way to induce some mast rotation??

Maybe it's just a storage thing for the bungee? I keep several on the center laces of my tramp just to run through handles on water bottles, my sandals, etc to keep them from falling off the boat. Dunno.

Warm regards, Jim
