Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | It's different from state to state but the following companies will cover the boat in regattas: U.S. Sailing's one design insurance available through Gowrie, Barden, & Brett - http://www.ussailing.com/membership/insurance/#One-DesignInsurance (boat must be on pre-approved 'one design' list) State Farm (probably dependant on your current level of insurance with them - All my insurance is (was) with them) Progressive (this was who I went with) Boat U.S. (who never called me back)

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | As I've mentioned before, I went with the big "P" insurance company. They automatically included racing in the insurance for no additional premium.
Go with a high deductible, like $500 or $1000 and your premium will be pretty cheap. Besides, you will fix anything less than that yourself anyway.
Regardless of who you choose, make sure they include racing - it's normally EXCLUDED in marine policies (they usually deal with power boaters, and may not be used to sailing)

This is for $100,000 liability and a $500 deductable and is a replacement policy where that if the boat were ever totaled, instead of establishing a depreciated price for my boat, they go find a same model year or newer and write the check for it.
Strangly, my monohull - a 1985 Hunter 23 valued at $4000 with a $1500 trailer, was $220!

Posts: 248 Colorado | At $191 you're paying almost $70 more for similar coverage to mine, but I think your location and number of claims for the area probably bumps up the price. Still, at about $16 per month, that's a bargain. I'm sure we all spend more than the annual insurance premium to attend a weekend regatta.

Posts: 241 Simi Valley, CA | Progressive qouted me $181 on my prindle, with similar coverage to jakes, except that its an "agreed value" plan, I fax them a copy of the bill of sale, and the value of the boat never depreciates in there eyes. If it is totaled they write me a check for that value. Also with this my deductable startes at $500 but as time goes on the knock it down untill its zero. Naturally i will not be able to prove that I bought my bought for anywhere near the value that Jake purchased his for. I'm gonna check all state today, I'm not sure American Family covers california.

Posts: 99 Chicago, IL | I just throw my 2 cents in.
I’m form Chicago, IL and I pay 122.00$ for the N6.0na and trailer. The boat value is $6000, boat equipment $600 and trailer $400.
Water liability $300000 additional $15 and watercraft medical $5000 (each person) additional $2.
Deductible is $250 for each occurrence.
So the total for the year is $ 139.00 (Allstate) this price includes discount because I have 2 cars insured with them as well.
I hope this will helps

Posts: 248 Colorado | Is the boat value the same too? Jake, A new Hobie 20 = $12,500, though I didn't pay that much, that's what I insured it for in case of a total loss; racing is OK, $300,000 liability $250 deductable. I don't have any other policies with American Family, but clearly the location of the boat has a big influence on the price of coverage. Colorado's six-month sailing season limits their exposure and according to the agent (a sailing buddy of mine) they base the rates on the number and value of claims for this kind of boat. He felt like the price was pretty cheap considering the speed (and damage) potential for the bigger beach cats.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Hey...that's not bad! When they asked me about sailing areas I told the truth, inland lakes and rivers primarily, atlantic coast, occasionally florida coastal (florida coast was something special - almost all of them asked me that twice).
