Hello.
I own an 2000 Inter 18 cat. I hear a frightning strong knock sound from the shroud area (the connection to the boat).
I could not locate the source of the sound. It usally appeares after jibeing or when the boat get's a wind stroke.
Can any one help, Has any one had this problem?
Thank you.
Isrealy Inter Sailor.

The knock sounds from both shrouds, whenever there is high tention on the shroud after gybeing.

We had a similar issue with our I20 while racing the Tybee 500. It was pretty freaky. However, we had determined that the noise was caused by shifting of the shrouds at the upper tang on the mast. The sound was transmitted to the hull through the wire making the hull resound like a drum. It sounded like that's where the problem was but I investigated several times with my hand on the shroud and it was not hull related.

I recommend re-rigging the mast hound and see if the sound goes away.

Given what you have said, I would go with the above....

Take the mast down, check everything, make sure nothing is crossed up and put it all back up again. Will then probably have gone away.....

AFTER I read this thread, I got a loud knock when jibing. It was also after I had removed a sail cover from inside one hull.

I checked back inside the hull, and found a previously unknown tiller extension left by the previous owner. (Because it was white, it was invisible in the gloom).

Be sure to try the low-tech approach first!
