23 F18s raced at Catfight V - what a hoot! Just like the good old days with lots of competition. 3 days of great racing in just about every condition (light, lumpy & heavy).

St. Louis, MO,
I can barely keep my eyes open today after yesterday's long drive home. However I can't stop thinking about blasting through those waves yesterday with the big air. That was a lot of fun. I had to get on out of there early because of the long drive home. Are there results posted somewhere on the web? I'm really looking forward to seeing the results. It's really hard to keep track of placings in the fleet with all the different boats.

My hat's off to you guys for running a top notch regatta. To those race committee personal who suffered on Sunday I would like to say a big THANK YOU. Those were some very fun conditions. I'd sure like to know what it was actually blowing that day. The waves seemed huge for the amount of wind we had.

I have to say on that last race when I saw the 3X around I thought "OH YEAH BABY" I'm loving the F18 concept.

Results should be posted in a day or two. I can tell you the top 5 in F18:
(1) Struble (Nacra)
(2) Bauldry (Hobie)
(3) Selsmeyer (Nacra)
(4) Forgot his name (Nacra 314)
(5) Cochran (Nacra)

I hope somebody had a video camera up at the offset mark. I saw people swimming at that mark twice. On one rounding a wave washed completely over my boat from behind and almost washed us over. Les Gallagher on an F18 was lifted off the boat by a wave, and when he came back down the boat was gone. Splash! Going upwind my boat was airborn several times. Very cool.

314 was Sean Fidler.

That was my first time sailing the Tiger in heavy air. I have to agree it was a hoot! (being 1st / 2nd to the first weather mark didn't hurt, either ). I did get a little gun shy downwind after stuffing it in up to the mast (didn't capsize, though). I figure the wind was a steady high teens with gusts into the low 20's. Waves were 6-7 feet by the weather mark.

Nice job, guys

Catfight V results are posted at
http://www.websitemagic.com/cram/regatta.htm

It looks like 20 F18s - not 23. Still a fabulous turnout!
