Somewhere along the way I seem to remember hearing something about the decks on most Performance boats being removable. Can anyone confirm this for a 1999 P19? More to the point, does anyone have a clue how to pry those little suckers off without breaking them?

I backed down a wave and pushed a gudgeon into my transom this weekend. I need to repair it and don't particularly care for the inspection port look.

Thanks all,
Shannon Galway

Not an expert but.... 1) the decks pry off with a heat gun... but they usually break in the process and you put new decks back on.

2) Fellow in my area cut access holes on the insides of the hulls ... replaced the gudgeons with two of them doubled up and a backing plate and then reglassed the cutout back in.

Shannon,
In theory the deck is removable. The problem is it sits on a very thin flange and is epoxyed in place. I recently replaced my foredecks. It was next to impossible to remove them without damaging the flange (it was so delicate). But if you must pull the deck it is not that hard to reconstruct the flange.

But as posted previously... if the deck is fine then it would be best to go though the side of the hull and then repair the hull.

Good luck,
Mike

Arn't there inspection ports in the rear of a P19 already. I don't understand why you can't fix it through the existing inspection ports? I must be missing something????

Good point, but there is a bulkhead under the rear beam between the transom and the port. I wonder if you could cut a hole in that bulkhead and go in through there?
