The holes in the upper and lower rudder gudgeons on my 5.2 are slightly different. One set is ovaled (sp) fore/aft the other set is not. Is this normal or are they worn. If normal, which one goes on top/bottom...

I noticed this when I was checking the rudders for alignment and the port side had the elongated holes on top, the starboard side had them on bottom. I have noticed that when on port tack, I had more weather helm than when I was on starboard tack. The elongated holes would allow the starboard rudder to pivit back slightly. I suspect that did not allow the proper rudder rake. I reinstalled the elongated holes on the top which will prevent the rudder from piviting back and hopefully will help to balance the helm. Have not had enough wind the last few days to see if this will help.

Its wear: Fill the holes with a filled epoxy- like JB Weld and redrill them. They will last a long time.
