Dear all! Following my earlier posts i have come to the conclusion that i should upgrade my old cat to something new! I have started to look around, and from my needs it seems that Hobie Pacific should fit my needs...but also the Nacra 570. Anyone have any experience from these crafts, comments or maybe suggestions what to choose?

Regards Kenneth

I sailed the pacific.

But what are your criteria ? That makes answering your question easier

What is a Hobie Pacific? The Pacific Cat (P-Cat) is not a Hobie, and Hobie does not have a model called "Pacific."

Sorry, I couldn't find a Hobie Pacific at that site. I guess I am doing something wrong.

We are still up in Ohio at Put-in-Bay right now, but it looks like Key Largo has cheated fate again, as far as Ivan.

The criterias are a bit vaugh...but easy to sail, but still fast and exiting. No centreboards (shallow waters), 18 ft +, maybe wings and maybe stowaway utlities. I like to raid, but also to speed in good wind.

I will also go sailing alone sometimes, although i know the boats are a bit big for that.

All replies deal with the Hobie Pacific

>>but easy to sail, but still fast and exiting.

I wouldn't call it easy to sail, for some reason the boat is hard to turn. And all 4 boats I sailed at one time or another had the same feel to them. In a straight line it is okay. Under spinnaker it is exiting. But the sluggish cornering does take away from it a little bit.

>>No centreboards (shallow waters)

How shallow is your water ? Afterall your rudders need to stay down as well. There are boarded alternatives with short boards that will function in shallow waters pretty well.

>> 18 ft +, maybe wings and maybe stowaway utlities.

Why 18 foot and over ? Why wings ? This takes away good designs like nacra 500 and 5.2. pacific doesn't have stow away facilities except for the spinnaker bag on the trampoline.

>>I like to raid, but also to speed in good wind.

What is raid ? In good wind any cat has speed.

>>I will also go sailing alone sometimes, although i know the boats are a bit big for that.

Pacific is definately to big for that unless you have a hand to help you get into the water or get the boat of the trailer.

It is actually quite heavy.

I must admit I have never sailed a nacra 5.7 ot 570 but from the looks I would say that this is the better boat.

I did put a Hobie FX-one mast and sails on a Hobie Pacific and noticed that it behaved better with it. The rig that was sold with the 4 pacifics I sails was actually quite mediocre. The FX-one being a more race oriented boat had a better rig and it showed.

These are trully my honest opinions on the Pacific

Thank you, Verlage. Now, at least, I know there is such a thing as a Hobie Pacific. It's kind of confusing, since there is a non-Hobie Pacific.

Yes, and it's also confusing to name a european boat that will never sail the Pacific just that!
