Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I don't know of an active website but there are supposed to be photos at http://www.shotbyroxy.com (I haven't checked yet this morning). I'll try to put up a blurb each morning here too. Yesterday was light and fluky. The RC intended for a 1pm start to try and let the breeze build a little - but that didn't help. From 1pm to 4:15pm we got in one race that saw a 40 degree windshift toward the end. Results weren't posted as of late last night. The RC tried to get a second series run just after 4pm but after starting the I20s they had to delay again because the breeze had dipped below the 5knot minimum. There's a huge I20 fleet here, 5 Nacra 5.5s, a lot of I17 (f17s), and a sprinkling of F18s. In the F18 fleet, the Batchelors took first, Team Hartness (myself and Tony V) took second after leading 3/4 the way, a team from the midwest (sorry - I'll get their names today) took third (with the smaller F18 sail plan), and team Weathermark had an unusual 4th place showing. More to follow! Weather today is supposed to be light again but I hear there's a front coming in that will bring nuclear conditions on Wednesday....

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Good wind today but a brutal chop. The wind was approximately 8 to 12 - occasional double traping. I'll see if I can get a copy of the overall results tonight but I do know that Team Tybee, Castrol, and Tommy Bahama are really dukin' it out in the I20 fleet. Four races in today.
Expecting 15-20knots by 1pm tommorow according to what I've researched. It should get interesting!

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Wild day today! Winds out of the ENE between 15 to 18knots. A decent swell and heavy chop made for a day that mixed up the results.
I understand that in the I20s Tommy Bahama (Nigel and Alex) scored three bullets in three races today and I believe they are followed by Tybee (Kenny and Steve) and Castrol (JC and Jim) is in third - but it's still tight. Our good buddy Bob Curry continues to dominate the I17 (F17) class. We finally had a good day as Tony and I were able to find great boat speed and were the only F18 team to keep it pointy end up (we're a little heavier) all day. We scored two bullets out of the three races. I believe that Team Weathermark is still strongly in first place in the F18s.
A lot of boats capsized today and the order downwind was to keep the boat from getting overpowered and keep the boat on her feet and moving upwind. At least two teams went back to the beach to replace battens in the sails between races. Once we hit a steep tall wave and our whole boat, sans about 6 inches of leward rudder, was completely airborn! It was a pretty thrilling day today.

Posts: 1,253 Columbia South Carolina, USA | Go to day 4, last page of pix. Note TB boat under water. Thats why the I20 is the choice of the distance racer. Submarine to full throttle again in a flash. The only complaint I have is the "Bucking Bronco" effect. With the chute up you hit a big wave with the rear beam. It slows you a little but also throws the front end back down causing the front beam to hit and slow you down. Thank God for chicken lines! What a ride!

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Actually that was Brian Karr's boat with Befi (Jon) onboard (Brevard Challenge / http://www.rockledgeengineering.com) in an effort to drive off a rush by Rick Bliss and Brandy Wood and there is about another three photos in that series. Team Weathermark had a problem keeping their F18 from nose diving downwind ... turns out that Mike and Dave kept trying to drive the boat like it was an I20 (they have TONS of I20 experience). Having been on both...I really like my F18 and wouldn't trade it for anything - but it's not an I20 and if I were racing offshore, I wouldn't be on anything else.
