Posts: 5,558 Key Largo, FL & Put-in-Bay, OH... | I hope the people who use this forum are aware that this web site has an incredibly extensive on-line marine store. I went to the store and clicked on "Miscellaneous" and then on "Everything else" and, right there on top, are drain plugs. Somehow it does not seem very polite to be sending people elsewhere when you can get it right here and help to support this website and the wide array of forums we provide free for any group that wants to have a forum here. Not to mention the other services provided here, like event schedules for the whole country and a large classified ad section. In fact, since it is the middle of the night and I am a little cranky, I am also wondering how many of the people on this forum subscribe to my magazine, "Catamaran Sailor," which I have been publishing for the past 10 years -- and which is why I am often up in the middle of the night tilting at windmills. | | | Re: drain plugs?

Posts: 591 Bradenton, FL | I've had Catamaran Sailor as long as I've had a catamaran. My "mentor" in sailing bought me a subscription and I've renewed it ever since.
Catamaran Sailor and Good Old Boat are the only subscriptions I've ever had that are worth the money.

Posts: 5,558 Key Largo, FL & Put-in-Bay, OH... | I have always thought that the inspection hatches, being larger than the drain plugs, are a more likely source of water entry. But having owned or been on many different boats over the years, power and sail, large and small, I firmly believe that even if the entire boat is sealed in a vacuum bag, somehow water will find a way to get in.
We have only owned two boats of any kind that did not leak, and both of those were Nacras. Every time we looked into the hulls, there was nothing there but a little bit of dust.
Recent models of the Hobie Wave do not have inspection ports at the aft end of the hulls like the earlier models. Normally, I open the inspection port and use a sponge to get out any water. But if there is no way to see whether there is water in there, I have to decide whether to remove the drain plugs and lift the bows to drain the boat (just in case) or say, "Ignorance is bliss."
This brings up another question, and I am going to start a new post right now entitled "Kinetics possible on catamarans?" | | | Re: drain plugs?

Posts: 5,558 Key Largo, FL & Put-in-Bay, OH... | I don't know, Dermot. The two have nothing to do with each other. You probably have a magazine for beach cats in Europe, don't you? I know about Multihulls World, but if you have another one over there just for beach cats, please let me know so I can get a copy and maybe subscribe to it.
Same goes for those of you in Australia and other parts of the world. If there is a beach-cat magazine in your area, please let me know about it, because we here in the States would like to know what is going elsewhere. | | | Re: drain plugs?

Mary, The Irish and American sense of humour is certainly different - you are so serious I was jokingly indicating that, in a small way, I had contributed financially to help with the good work yourself and Rick do for Catamaran Sailors, even if I don't buy your magazine. Apart from Multihulls World, Yachts & Yachting is the only magazine that gives good coverage to multihulls, especially beachcats.

Posts: 915 Dublin, Ireland | I used to subscribe to a magazine called Multihull International in the 80s & 90s. It was truly international and covered events and new designs from all over the world, although mainly the UK and Europe. I have just found the Dec 93 copy. It covers events like the Australian 5th National Trailable Multihull Regatta, preview of the 94 London Boat Show, A "Design Concept" - A 6m Planing Catamaran ! and a review of a "Harbour Island 30" Trimaran designed by Douglas A Zurn from Ohio, USA. It was published by Chandler Publications Ltd. in Totnes, Devon UK. I have just done a google search and it looks like it is still in print. http://www.multihull-international.co.ukIt does seem to concentrate on the larger cats. It has a different publisher, but still in Devon.
