Youth will be served!

Congratulations to Matt Keenan of Fleet 250 for his great performance this weekend at the Miles River Yacht Club for the Area C Alter Qualifier. Matt sailed a Nacra I17 R to 4 bullets and a third. Mike is a senior in high school and kicked the butt of us old Farts!
Rumor has it that John Sullivan and Dan Kulkowski of Fleet 250 have had a hand in teaching Matt all of their tricks…. Next year…. they will have to come down and get spanked by Matt as well!) Kudo’s to all.

CRAC and myself would like to thank our host at the gorgeous Miles River Yacht Club, Ernie Becker. Ernie assembled a great team to staff two marks boats and a race committee 40 footer for 5 races on Saturday ! Unfortunately, the wind failed to cooperate on Sunday.

The Miles River was just spectacular this weekend. The fall foliage is in full glory and flocks of migrating geese were scattered by cats having a great time in the absolutely perfect 8 to 12 knots during the day. A 19th century schooner slowly paraded up and down the river with tourists on board. Family spectators were able to catch all of the action in front of St Michaels as well. We took a break on the water when the marks boats delivered lunch of a wrap, chips, oranges, candy bars and water. After racing we extended the party into happy hour in the club bar and then joined a group of sailors from the Singles on Sailboats cruise in the Tiki Dock Bar. (What happens in St Michaels stays in St Michaels) We headed out to dinner. Sunday’s lack of wind was balanced by a close examination of a couple of 100 year old log sailing canoes of Judge Murphy. Greg was not able to convince him to let a bunch of catsailors try to really make Island Blossum fly if we just “heated it up!” Trophies were awarded in the Tiki bar amidst a carpet of peanut shells and hot ordure’s.

Thanks again to Commodore Gordon and PRO Ernie Becker for their wonderful hospitality and great racing.

Take Care
Mark Schneider

Excellent job, Mark - please send me the top three finishers' paperwork, and we'll get Matt set up for the Alter Cup in California. Hope he enjoys the Tiger - we'll have 11 of them at Alamitos Bay Yacht Club next April. Only 6 months away!

Folks - petitions are rolling in. Only one qualifying event left. All the various nationals are complete. The Championship fleet will be getting their invitations to compete for the Hobie Alter Cup soon.

Also - the Multihull Council has accepted a bid from the Pensacola Beach Yacht Club, Key Sailing, and Performance Catamarans to host the 2006 event. I am currently seeking a venue for 2007.

Area D South is in Melbourne, FL - November 6 and 7 - hosted by the Hubel's at Performance Sail and Sport. NOR is at http://www.ussailing.org/alter/alter05/elims04/area_dS_nor_entry.pdf

ps - great to be back on-line!

After watching Lionel Messi play, I realize I need to sail harder.

Just wanted to add something here:

The least we can do is to give a lot of credit to a gentleman from our club called Ned Cook who very nicely lend his Inter 17 R to Matt since more than two years. As a result, Matt has a competitive boat to improve his natural talent and race againts our best competitors.

Thanks a lot Ned, you must be very pleased to see Matt winning.
