Has anyone ever used a different stranded cable for the side stays on a H16 or other cat? I have access to some coated stranded cable at a real good price. I checked the specifications on the cable and the working loads look higher on the new cable. This boat is for recreational sailing only so I'm not concerned about being class legal. I just want to make sure it keeps the mast up.

if it is stringer than your other line, should not be a problem. What material is it made from?

I think it is steel stranded cable. I know it won't last as long as stainless steel but this is in fresh water and at the cost that I am able to get them I could even change them each year and still come out ahead.
