Unregistered | Hi there,
can anybody tell me something about the size of the jib sail for the Sol Cat 18 e.x. Luff, Leech, Foot ?
Are they the same size as those for the Nacra 5.2 as I was told by somebody wanting to sell a used one to me ?
Thank you for any information | | | Re: Jib Size Sol Cat

Unregistered | Thanks BTW I called a sailmaker (Atlantic Sailtraider) and asked for a Jib for the SOL Cat 18. He told me a Luff of 17 and a Foot of 5.2 should be right. Does that sounds reasonable to someone ??? | | | Re: Jib Size Sol Cat

They are all about the same size as far as height, but the foot of the TheMightyHobie18 sail is much larger. You should be able to use any of them. There is a TheMightyHobie18 jib on eBay right now..

Unregistered | Thank you Dan, I completely forgot ebay !!. I checked the jibs available and asked one seller for the foot size. This looks awfully short on the SOL 18. if it's really 5.2 feet. I checked several sailmaker webseites, but usually the foot is much longer for a Luff of 17 feet. Unfortunately I cant buy a new one at this moment. | | | Re: Jib Size Sol Cat

Unregistered | Thanks Mike,
I found that ad some days ago, but as it's nearly 17 months old I had not much hope. But I should give it a try anyway | | | Re: Jib Size Sol Cat

Posts: 217 Palm Harbor, FL, USA | Did you try and contact someone at Murrays? I would think either they would know or know someone who would. Also try Mark Mitchelson at http://www.sailingproshop.comThey often get used Sol Cat parts and they might know. [color:"red"] UPDATE: [color:"black"] There is a listing for the jib in the Murrays catalog (part# 30-6112 $335-$470) so I am sure someone there could give you the correct dimensions.

Unregistered | Hi Dan, the Hobie 18 guy at ebay came back to me with a foot size of 98 inch, being somewhere at 8.17 feet. I measured the distance from the mast (foot) up to the place where the bridle meets the forstay. This is short of 6 feet. This being without any loop in the jib sheet, I can't imagine that a 8.17 feet jib can work ?????? | | | Re: Jib Size Sol Cat

Posts: 217 Palm Harbor, FL, USA | So did you get a Sol Cat jib or is it from another boat? If it is the Sol Cat one Measure both sails and post them up so we can add it to the general knowledge database. Thanks,

Unregistered | I'm sorry, it's not a Sol Cat jib. The sol cat was supposed to be 17 by 5.2, this one is 16 by 5.8, bjut it's the only one that "nearly" had the required size. As I'm a newbie, I thought I would not really recognize the difference in speed etc.
I had it up and it looked nicely to me and a neighbor, who is more experienced in sailing. So I took it.
Thanks again for the help | | |
