I noticed Wouter back slapping Jake on his post count and Jake lamenting he was still just a decent sailor in the titles. I did a little search and found some earlier discussion on this matter. Perhaps we can convince the powers to be to turn that feature back on.

Rick says nothing was turned off regarding the "titles" and number of posts. If you go to the FAQ at the top of the forum page, go to the topic, "What are these titles about?" It tells you how many posts you need to jump up to the next title category.

The titles given in the FAQ are the generic ones that come with the software, but at the very beginning Rick changed some of the title names to be more sailing-related. Unfortunately, he was not able to change the title names in the FAQ, but you can figure it out based on the different post levels in your quest to achieve the ultimate goal of most talkative sailor.

In the FAQ the top title level is 2500 posts and the title is "Carpal Tunnel." Rick has assigned "Great Sailor" as the title for that top level. When you get to that point, you will then be stuck with that title forevermore.

Of course, if you re-register with a different username, you will again start at the bottom as "Stranger" and have to work your way up through the ranks.

By the way, it looks like Jake has almost 500 more posts to go before he makes it to the Great Sailor category. I think maybe Wouter is the only one who is already there. If I am wrong about this, let me know.

Mary, I don't think it's working. Bob Curry has 181 posts and the title of novice. Lance with 48 posts has found the wind.

Well, apparently, Bob Curry has not yet found the wind. Or maybe the "scoring" is being done on a handicap basis.

Okay, I will check it out and get back to you on this thread. Might be a day or two.

The UBB software is a little flaky when changing titles, we have the same problem of a Forum I am closly associated with - www.tryesmoke.net and it drives us moderators slightly crazy....

Blame UBB.

Personally, it has never even occurred to me to notice what my "title" is. Why would anybody care? I guess some people are just competitive about EVERYTHING in life. I think everyone knows that the titles on this forum have absolutely nothing to do with sailing ability.

In fact, maybe the titles SHOULD be eliminated. What do you think?

So how did you end up with the title "veteran" with only 1424 posts ?

Wouter, it's obvious -- I sleep with the forum administrator.

Actually, I have sent a question to Infopop about it, and they need more information; and as soon as I can pin Rick down to talk about it, I will try to figure out what is happening with the post titles.

Probably it has something to do with the fact that Rick assigned some different titles than what come standard with the program. Maybe that screws things up somehow.

All good fun and just like Jake said, the handle is a good sign that I spend to much time overhere.

Mary had me set everything back to the default, so there will be NO Great Sailors!

However, now it looks like everybody's titles are in synch with their number of posts.
