On January 18th, on a nation-wide conference call, a new nonprofit association, the Great Texas Fleet, was created to run the Great Texas Catamaran Race in the future. The fleet has 21 members and will run the 2005 race scheduled for June 16-19 of this year. Meeting notes on the race are included. In addition, a listing of likely teams to sail the race is included.

General Annual Meeting Notes

January 18, 2005, 7 pm Conference Call

Creation of the Great Texas Fleet
A new nonprofit association, the Great Texas Fleet, has been created to run the Great Texas Catamaran Race in the future. The association is governed by member elected officers. The by-laws for the new association were approved by 21 founding members of the fleet. Members have the rights to vote for elected officers and thus control the operation of the race. Anyone that is interested in the Great Texas Catamaran Race may become a member of the Great Texas Fleet. Membership dues are $10. (Send to Great Texas Fleet, 4002 Ave C, Austin, TX 78751.) You do not have to be a member of the fleet in order to participate in the race.

Election of Officers
The Great Texas Fleet elected the following officers:
Commodore: Steve Piche
Vice Commodore: Tom Meyer
Treasurer: Mike Beuerlein
Sponsorship: Brent Reid

Great Texas Catamaran Race 2005 Overview
The race organization reviewed some of the major changes for the race this coming year. Registration fees have change to $275 by May 1 and $400 after May 1. The race will rely more on registration fees rather than raffle proceeds. The Notice of Race, Registration form, Fleet membership form and Race Rules will be placed on the PI Sailing web site by February 1.

Principle Race Officer (PRO) Tom Meyer reviewed minor changes in the race rules. Every sailor will be required to carry a VHF radio on their person during the race. Also, quick releases will be required on the safety line attached to the sailor. Finally, Thor Jones and Tom Meyer discussed notification of the Coast Guard.

Brent Jones, Beach Captain, discussed the sites for the ’05 race. No changes in site locations are expected except for possibly a change of beach house location in Surfside. To support the beach house in Surfside, Brent asked how many teams would pay $250 to stay in the beach house. Steve Piche, Mike Beuerlein and Michael Yost said they would pay the fee. Others that are interested in the option of stay in the beach house in Surfside need to contact Brent.

Volunteers were requested for other areas. The following people have signed up for these positions:
Regatta Chair: Steve Piche
PRO: Tom Meyer
Beach Captain: Brent Reid
Treasurer: Mike Beuerlein
T-Shirts: Chris Holt
Trophies: John Webster with help from Mike Beuerlein and Steve Piche

When will this race likely be run? If a team from FL is going, I wouldn't mind tagging along with my camera gear and helping out if my work schedule does not conflict.
