I just returned from vacation in Curacao and was anxious to read the Sailing World article by Steve Titus, who was my sailing mate for the last OBX500. Not being able to find it on the local news stands, I just checked out this forum and found a discussion—sounds like it was well received! I also noticed that Steve had posted a note about being available to do this year’s Atlantic 1000.
Although I haven’t had the opportunity to read the article yet, I congratulate Steve on what appears to be a great article. I’d also like to congratulate him on doing a great job sailing with me in last year’s race — he really made me a better helmsman. He’s a smart guy — he interviewed Kenny, Steve and Brian for his article, and then went on to put everything he learned into practice. He worked very hard at trimming and got better every day, letting me concentrate on driving. Like me, he seemed to get more pumped as the wind and sea picked up.
The reason I’m praising Steve is that he’s contacted me several times now to do it again. Although I’d jump at the chance, I simple can’t spare the time this year. I’d really like to see him do it again and know he would make a great crew for someone. I would highly recommend him and would welcome any questions regarding his abilities and attitude.
Good luck to all the A1000 competitors this year. I hope more of you decide to do the OBX500 part. In my mind it really is the more interesting and challenging part of the race, with all the capes. Man, I’m really going to miss it!
