I know that the chatter on this Forum certainly has slowed up.
However, when I saw that there were already 2 F14 boats signed up at the Spring Fever, Mary (Wells) and I decided to sail as F14s as well, making a total of 4 so far.
We would have sailed Waves, but it appears that the Wave sailors are not interested in going.

Anyone else want to play with us at the Spring Fever? It will be our first opportunity to attend inasmuch as the event has always conflicted with our annual Sailing Seminars we do each April in the Florida Keys.

I think there are some folks that just haven't registered yet - most of the 4.3s will be back. I'm very sad to say that I booked my trip to the Tiger Worlds quite a while back, never imagining that EASTER was in MARCH this year! That means I'll be missing SF for the first time.

Good luck 14s! Keep the idea going!

On that note - the first 4.3 Nationals will be in Ohio in May - there are charters available!

Great. Rick, Mary AND Bob (if he registers F14) to follow around. I'm going to have to start drinking early to ease the pain.

I'd love to race in the F14 class if I could find a boat to borrow for the weekend. Otherwise I'll just show up and hope someone needs crew in one of the other classes, just like I did last time.

Hey, Dan, PLEASE follow ME around instead of Bob or Rick. Then I will at least have somebody to fight it out with for last place. I'm very new at racing by myself, and my tactics are strictly trial and error. I have a lot of fun with the trials, and I don't learn from my errors.

I just talked to Bob Curry, and he isn't going to Spring Fever. Something about a tractor.

I have this idea about Mary--she was controlling the wind this weekend. She was the first on the water, so we all got out a little and then the wind died. She, being a sane person, went back in instead of floating around all day. Of course, when she hit the ramp, the wind picked up. So, Mary on the water = no wind. Mary warm and dry on land = wind. Hmm...there HAS to be an Indian name for this..

Glad I could help out. Let me know when you come up with the Indian name.

And now that I think about it, hurricanes used to always be given women's names. And didn't it used to be bad luck to have a woman on your boat?

Yes, having women aboard was considered bad for your luck, a boat with an all female crew was something the old guys probably could not comprehend.
But then, ordained clergy was considered worse luck to have aboard (I'am talking year 700-1000 now). If a man with shaved head was found aboard, over the side he went. The higher clergy, gave proportionally worse luck..

I remember reading that mentioning rabbits onboard was to be avoided, "small furry ones" was on the borderline of proper language (was it Ellen McA??).

So Mary, females are not the only target for sailor superstition. Sailors are a funny lot..

Hmm, wonder what the authorities would say if I started sacrificing sheep over the bow before setting sail again. It's supposed to be good luck to please the gods with a blood sacrifice..

I haven't come up with anything for Mary, yet, but I had a friend in College who's indian name was, "Dances with Fat Chicks."
