I'm looking for something to use going around the cans and while rec. sailing. I need to get it to use at the Spring Fever regatta. I figure a half-harness would be good for this but I wanted to hear if this is a comfortable model. I'll also be in the market for a nice life jacket to go with it.

I have a Murray's Freedom half-harness, and I give it the double thumbs up! It is great, and right on for the price. The wide spreader bar on it makes it so comfortable, and the way the straps are set up on it are sure to protect any future offspring I may have also... I also use lotus designs lifejackets. I think they are great (I have 4 ). They are very comfortable and enable you to move around very freely.

Oh yeah, one more thing, if you don't buy one before Spring Fever, you are welcome to check out mine, try it out before you buy/etc.

Hello all,

yep,...the product you mention is what I have,....and it does the job well.

I have a full harness also,...but 9 out of 10 times I am wearing the 'half'...

For me,..it gives full use of the upper body, uninhibited,...so, if you are in 'man overboard' mode,.life just became easier.

A few posts back,..there was mention of windsurfer half harnesses,......I'd look at those too.

It is a funny thing, for I purchased the Murray unit from Layline as a 'mark down' item,.....it cost a liitle more than a pair of good sailing gloves...very economical.

,,,I suspect the half harness gets a negative feedback from those who have never used one,......I was not a fan of them until I strapped it on and got wet.

regards,
Bruce

I have both; Full and a half harnesses. You'll find that the full harness is exactly what you need when you intend to spend hours on the wire, while the half is nice to have when you occasionally may be "stepping out" on the town.

I have the murray half race and would never consider a full unless on a serious long distance race (over 30 miles).

I really think the half harness is the way to go for buoy racing.., particularly a place like Lake Harwell where the winds will probably be light and shifty.
For distance racing you need a lot more support.

Take a look at the harnesses we have.., including Gul and Murrays, that can be shipped same day and be there in time for the Spring Fever.

and click to the second and third pages for even more.

Good luck,
Rick

Thank you everyone! I've ordered the harness from the catsailor store and look forward to trying it out at Spring Fever (if we have more wind than last year )!
