Who is coming to the TBCSI Macho Man Regatta, April 9-10, 2005?
Start at Davis Island Yacht Club, down Tampa Bay, through the Skyway Bridge, Up the Gulf of Mexico, Through Hurricane Pass, to Dunedin Causeway.

We expect a lot of the big boys because the first day Macho Man race is part of the Endurance Sails Series followed by 1design. Only two up nuts permitted to risk this one (At least two persons on a boat for safety). A great shake down for the Tybee 500 and the Outer Banks 500 (Atlantic 1000). Even if you don’t participate you will want to follow this race closely.

Sunday’s race, The Mini Macho Man, is a distance race that starts and ends at the Dunedin Causeway. Hopefully some of the big boys will stay around so you can check out their boats and may even have a chance to beat them.

For the Mini Macho you will be putting the T 4.9/F16's on the kiddie course...right?

I've been waiting for somebody to say, "Them's fightin' words." But maybe there are no macho men in the F16 class .

Mike,
Most Visiting Macho participants drop their boats off at DIYC (just inside the gate on the grass on wheels) Friday evening. Hoopes says he thinks DIYC closes the gates at about 7:00 p.m. They then take their trailers to Dunedin Causeway and drop them off there before going to one of the local hotels or out to Party at Eddie’s. In the morning they gang up to take gear and as many sailors as they can get in to a vehicle for the trip to DIYC. Since space is limited DIYC wants the boats on wheels with no trailers inside the gate. Trailers can be left out in the Dog Beach parking area. If you don’t have wheels I’m sure someone like John F. will have a set you can use that morning.

The locals come in on Saturday morning early and setup. Their support people try to help ferry the all the left over cars, trailers and wheels that belong to both visitors and locals back to Dunedin Causeway so they are there and waiting at the finish line. It has gone fairly smoothly for many years but it is always good to think out your logistics in advance. Since you are a local you could just drop your boat off at DIYC Friday, if you want, bring your trailer to the causeway and arrange for a ride over in the morning. If the winds are as high as they have been lately the boats could beat the support groups back.

How far is it from the DIYC to the Dunedin Causeway? (driving time wise)

It's about 30 miles from Davis Island to the Dunedin Causeway. Depending on the time of day it takes about an hour to drive it. It's about 65 miles by water if you're in a power boat. Sailing might double that.

Terry, what's the record for this race, about 6 hours?

April 6, 2002, I show Team Tybee coming in 5:43:04. That just missed what I am trying to find. A N6.0 did it in somthing just around 5:35 I recall. Dennis & Star should have those numbers. We'll ask them this weekend.

Sounds like a great weather weekend for a new record. Front should go through Friday. Calling for 78 and sun, wind from west and north. Sunday 80 wind from the north but I would expect it to veer west as the seabreeze kicks. Should have a great course on Sunday for those that have anything left after the Macho.
