So pulled my rudders apart today to find two very worn(nearly failing ) cams and a sister screw in only the port side. Not a good look really...think we were really lucky not to loose the cam while sailing( ive only owned the boat for 2 weeks
).
My difficulty is that the casting itself has been worn away where the screw goes through and in a short space of time will not hold it correctly.
Rather than rabble on -i took a picture.Any ideas how this can be fixed or is it time for new castings

I tried to attach photo..wont work right now so ill try to explain again.
Where the sister screw goes through the casting in the rudder has worn away and it wont be long till the screw no longer stays bound by the original hole in the casting

Hope that was better.

If it's that bad (and it's tough to judge w/o a photo) - take it to a welding shop and have them fill the hole. (Would take them all of maybe 10 minutes if they have the right equipment.)

Then re-drill and countersink the hole.

Alternatively, if you've got a torch, you could use some of this stuff: Muggy Weld
