As you can see by my display name, I am a Nacra 5.2 sailor. I will be moving to Traverse City Michigan this summer and wondered if anyone out there knows if there is cat racing that I could partake of, and maybe where I could keep the boat. I have not had any luck getting replies from any monohull sailing groups up that way, and wonder if the cat folks could help. Thanks for any ideas.

Dick

The Nacra North Americans are in Traverse City this coming September. You don't want to miss coming to that event, even if you don't want to race your N5.2 (Open Class).

Oh I would love to sail in that! I have a great place here where we race every Sat from March to early December so that is about all I know to do.

I tried to get to the CRAM site mentioned in the other comment, but somehow AOL keeps me out, so I still have no real ideas of where to look or go when I get to TC but will look on the net and see if I can find something on the Sept event.

Hope to see you there!

Dick

CRAM's first two regattas are a short drive from Traverse City. The first is at South Higgins Lake State Park on May 21st and 22nd. Get a campsite down near the west end of the campground. That is where the boats are most easily launched and where the party on Saturday night will be.

The second regatta is at Young State Park just north of Boyne City. Most camp in the Terrace Campgrounds because of the beach next to the launching ramp. That is where the party will be on Saturday night.

Some say that CRAM is the party club with an extreme sailing problem! We would love to see you attend!

Don't miss the Red Fox regatta on Lake Charlevoix (September 3-4)!

You need to figure out which half of Grand Traverse Bay (east vs. west) to keep your boat on. On east bay, a number of cats are kept on the beach at the State Park. On west bay, there is mast-up storage at Elmwood Township or GTYC (private club). None of these locations are particularly secure.

Send me a message offline if you'd like more information.
